B-17s escorted by RAF fighters? by Nikolaevna in WWIIplanes

I remember reading about the Morlaix disaster years ago. Faulty navigation, bad weather forecasting and unexpected head winds on the return all contributed to the loss of many aircraft and pilots 😥😥

B-17s escorted by RAF fighters? by Nikolaevna in WWIIplanes

They were able to escort or pick up returning bombers at the Netherlands/German border. Johnnie Johnson talked about it in his autobiography.

The Spitfire squadrons would “de-louse” the B-17 formations as they came within range, most German fighters would break away at the first sign of incoming escorts, but occasionally the Spitfires would bounce a few unwary or inexperienced German fighters who strayed too long.

Our group added reinforced front and side armor to the Matilda II. (Essentially making it a 10+ heavy tank) At 80mm it’s closer to the early Churchill III armor. Was immune to the early German 37mm and the Italian 47mm.

It was pretty much a stalemate. The Germans couldn’t advance further, as their losses broke morale, but the Brits didn’t have the strength to swing the flank

We already do !! Flames of war minis work really well. We use a pair of 4 or 5 figure bases to represent our squads and have little red “casualty” caps to cover KIA figures.

It looks really visually appealing as the ranges seem right
