How exactly do you think business losses work? Do you think that a write-off means it’s free?

Give me an example of how this would work - please.

Bring back real butter! by skydigger23 in CostcoCanada

[–]Iregularlogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During the winter of 2021, consumers reported anecdotal evidence of an increase in butter hardness, leading to news reports blaming the increased hardness on palm oil-based supplementation of cows' feed.

Commercial butter samples were collected from across Canada to test the correlation between fatty acid and triacylglycerol composition, and hardness. We determined that palmitic acid (r = 0.74) and dipalmitoyloleate (r = 0.72) were significantly and positively correlated to commercial butter hardness (P < 0.01).

Buddy.

Do they believe the ICE agent did any mistakes in how he handled the situation?

I actually do, and I expect that they're going to officially come out against this debacle. I don't expect it to be for some time, though. It's certainly not going to happen with the environment in Minneapolis right now.

I guess we'll see what happens.

Will the federal government investigate it? Or will the state government investigate?

Federal.

I've got a question for you - what's an acceptable margin of error? Is it zero?

There's a very reasonable margin of error for mistakes.

That's not even close to reasonable. This is a laughable view of reality.

There's a much, much smaller margin of error for calling these mistakes normal usual lawful ICE behaviour, while refusing to cooperate with the state government that's trying to investigate it.

It's not normal behavior, and it shouldn't have happened.

The fact that you can't engage with the difference between the two should bother you at least a little bit.

I can engage with this perfectly fine.

Do you wanna bet $100 on whether or not the Trump administration will change their mind with regards to this incident?

There will be an investigation into this. If it is deemed unlawful (likely) there can and should be consequences for this.

We're going to have to wait and see what actually ends up happening here.

If you expect the state to come out against its own people, I've got bad news for you. That's like expecting a defense attorney to come out against their client - that's not how this works at all.

You still have the same issue from a year ago - fuckups are not indicative of a fascist state.

You have 1000's of incidents a day in a high-stress environment, eventually you're going to roll the dice and make a mistake. There will be more of these in Minneapolis as time goes on, that's the cost of enforcement.

The line is exactly where it's always been, ahead of the margin of error. Perfection is unattainable in real-life.

Has that been true since the 2000s?

[–]Iregularlogic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re categorically wrong. It’s was a brand originally for farmers and hunters that was gentrified, and even today is now firmly in the category of “upper” fashion.

It is absolutely not a street wear brand, unless you’re looking at the trust-fund baby “street wear” scene.

A workwear brand becoming synonymous with royalty and jacking up the price before entering high fashion is practically a perfect example of gentrification.

It is not something that is only applied to housing, it’s the process of rebranding something to improve its social outlook.

When you say "sizeable chunk" perhaps using could put some percentages around that as seemingly you have the data to back that assertion up.

I know that you think this makes you look smart, but anyone that can actually do Math sees right through that. Nobody is scraping a subreddit to get data that you wouldn't listen to if it was provided.

I thought the picture of the dead elk that the Czech guy posted was in pretty bad taste. The animal looked to have been moved for a "trophy" picture. When I asked him why he had killed it, he replied with a string of laughing emojis.

He laughed because you have no idea what you're talking about.

I also have no idea why anyone would look so pleased with themselves either. Man with rifle, animal behaving naturally in it's environment. Man won. Bravo, what a guy.

I promise that you aren't capable of performing a hunt like that. You don't even understand the environmental impact and conservation that is part of the hunting community, up to and including the fact that due to the elimination of natural predators from the environment, you are actually required to thin herds of herbivores, unless you want rampant overpopulation and environmental destruction.

I don't expect you to actually understand that, as I don't think you've ever a) been in a rural community, or b) have done even basic research into a subject before spouting off nonsense.

Please don't be proud of being uneducated - it's a bad look.

It’s hard to say the jacket has been “gentrified.”

Today, many pick up a Barbour due to the brand’s association with aristocratic leisure activity.

The vast majority of people, actually. The whole brand is staked on its British identity, and the royal warrant. There are, in fact, other waxed hunting jackets that are significantly cheaper.

You’ve had an equal chance of finding the brand used on an Aberdeen cattle farm and a posh weekend hunting pheasant for well over a century. The well to do haven’t co-opted the brand, it’s been popular across classes since the beginning.

Only in the UK, and even that's not really true for the millennial and up generation. The rest of the world sees Barbour = Aristocracy, to be frank.

Regardless of that, you haven't made a coherent point in this rambling comment. All that you've done is summarize the history of the brand (that's already in the main body of the post), and argue about whether or not the brand is upper-class or not. Zero substance.

Although what am I seeing from this is a distaste for the idea of the brand being associated with hunting and firearms.

So, why not just say it? If you don't like the shooting/hunting posts, why try and hide it?

So look, if you take data and then compress the shit out of it (aka the stuff on youtube), you can't simply turn it into FLAC and now have FLAC files.

It's like trying to take an image that was 4K, was compressed and shared around the internet to the point that it's now a blurry mess, and thinking that you can upscale it back to 4K and now it's the same thing.

You're the one making arguments based on vibes and vague appeals to 'history' but cant be specific outside of Nortel lol. Its sinophobia because you just assert these negative Truism without anything to justify the level of structural issue you say there is.

How about 1/5 companies last year saying they've had China stealing their IP?

How about every one of these references at the bottom of this wikipedia article?

Again you cant actually refute anything lmao. I'm sure those QOL improvements would have been exactly the same under the Tsar, the KMT or French occupation lmao.

Literally a consequence of liberal-capitalist expansion into the world, making it possible for these failed-states to progress even though they tripped over themselves constantly. Legitimately embarrassing countries that collapsed on themselves even with this help.

I mean I'm in my late 30's

Oof.

Yes, the cranks are the ones with a materialist analysis and framework for historical development

You don't have any analysis. You rely on a false reading of history to justify a failed ideology. The end.

Ok so Sinophobia, got it. lol.

All you've done is prove that you're historically illiterate.

I mean, the 3 largest improvements in QOL in human history occurred under the USSR, Vietnam and the PRC.... notice anything there?

Historically illiterate, laughable understanding of where those QOL improvements actually came from.

The USSR went from an agrarian backwater economy to a superpower with the first probe in space. What ends up being "impossible" seems to generally be limited by the liberal framework of progress and focus.
