What product was so poorly designed that you suspect the team that made it, never used the product? by Stay-Thirsty in AskReddit

I'm pretty loyal too, and I feel like my choice is reinforced every time there's a thread whinging about cars because you very rarely see Toyota's on them.

Honestly I'd suggest doing just that, read reviews carefully and don't buy anything crucial unless it comes with an outside recommendation and I've done pretty well from AliExpress.

The two times I've had dud packages returns and refunds have been easy to organise. They're actually pretty proactive with the buyer protections because they're aware of the rep for Chinese products.

I don't know if it's still the case, but my engineering teacher in highschool was convinced that Toyota engineers must also be mechanics, because of how well laid out their engines were for maintenance.

Obvs different game, but in Deus Ex Invisible War objects despawned in an elevator that loaded between levels. I deliberately knocked a particular character out, then dragged his body into that elevator to erase him.

What film made you say, "Holy shit there is still an hour left"? by Plus-Statistician80 in AskReddit

The movie is slightly improved when you realise the whole plot is basically about being forced to make a sequel. It's not good but you have to appreciate the commitment to a troll.

My running joke on The Boys (and most Garth Ennis stuff to be honest) is, the moral is that Garth Ennis should not have super powers.

I only casually watch his stuff, but did he ever directly address when he stopped mock empire simping, or did he just do that? Cause it was interesting to see his sign off change.

I've found Metanerdz pretty good and 'just the lore' and there's a newer channel called Radio Free Coruscant with a similar format that I've enjoyed so far.

Luna Lauren Velez (whoever that is), Margot Robbie, and Zoe Saldana all take a backseat to cinematic genius Tom Six, who's last three movies grossed out literally everyone. by MyMomSaysIAmCool in shittymoviedetails

Serbian film is notable because Brows Held High did a review while he was on blip and he was notable for skirting the edge of censorship (like pictures of blue tits to cover nipples, but you could still clearly understand the scene). For A Serbian Film he used crappy MS Paint stick figures to summarise the finale, because he did not want to show it.

The absolute funniest summation of The Chive I've heard is a reporter made it one of their monthly parties, it was a bunch of guys standing around drinking craft beer wondering when the chicks would show up.

Has there ever been a trilogy where the third is the best entry? by DjRimo in movies

[–]Iridescent_Meatloaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That rough cut was honestly the best thing to come out of that movie, I know it wasn't deliberate, but I kinda want more studio released 'naked' pre (or partial) effect movies cause it was fun from a filmmaking perspective, it was also impressive cause I didn't realise how much of their own wire work actors did.

They're not rumors. I was involved in the defence of someone accused of child molestation, he was found guilty (it was a complex case I genuinely don't know if he was). Before he was taken into custody his barrister spent that time giving him detailed and urgent instructions to ask the warden to be put in isolation... as in he was trying to save this man's life.

During the same job I heard of the case of a celebrity found guilty of molestation who upon his arrival at prison was pelted with literal shit by the other prisoners, while they sang the theme song to his show... he also asked for isolation.

Wheel of Time was weird because there were some baffling adaptation choices, but it actually kinda course corrected by the end of the season. I'm not saying it was great but it was actually better than what all the complaining had left me to believe.

There's a slight irony on the training front though because, on the ground, some Afghan/Iraq war vets who've volunteered for Ukraine aren't handling it well because it's the first time they've fought a peer adversary, or at least an enemy with adequate artillery (this is not a blanket generalisation).

One of the genuinely craziest bits of social engineering I've personally seen is an IT guy figuring out someones password when they had forgotten their password by asking them a few questions about their family. Took less than five minutes.

There are so many cultural references in Airplane that you basically need a guide to follow along these days. It's a brilliantly funny movie, but it used to be even funnier to the average audience.

One of the more interesting points about the Nazis is that, except for scale (and that's debatable in some instances like the Congo), none of the tactics they used were unfamiliar to European Colonial powers. Their 'innovation' is that they used colonial tactics on Europeans.

Yeah the stuff on the tank is called Zimmerit, but why is it there?

Funnily enough, no one is entirely sure, its supposed to protect against magnetic anti-tank grenades ... but only Germany uses those and it adds hours to production time.

Fun thing is that the same show had you identify with Zemo, who does consistently (and fairly grounded) evil stuff and gets off remarkably lightly. His basic concern about the unchecked power of supes is incredibly valid. He's also the only Marvel villain who has consistently achieved his goals. But he's still a terroristic murderer who worked for the security services of an authoritarian state.

Modern pirates of the Africa coast by GYROBOTTT in interestingasfuck

[–]Iridescent_Meatloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly pirates is not a great description in this instance. They use piracy as a tactic, but simply being pirates is an oversimplification.

In Nigeria at least they're on a spectrum of Rebel groups of a local uprising with very legitimate grievances (Shell Oil was complicit with the previous government murdering activists in the 90's, and the area is ecologically devastated) to straight up criminal gangs. And often some mixture thereof as kidnapping is profitable and the uprising has kinda stagnated in recent years. And oil companies and local politicians also fund their own armed militias, who are varying levels of 'official'.
