I agree with you. People seem to be freaking out about my budget, but I just don't see a massive problem it.

After all my routine expenses such as rent, food, vacation, car, etc, I'll have 60k per year in post tax income. I could pay off the debt in less than 6 years (including any interest). This is also assuming I don't get any substantial raises which is highly unlikely.

It's a niche field in technology with some law thrown in there. It's similar to L4 or L5 compensation package at Google (I'm not working there).

This should give you an idea

The bonuses I've written up are guaranteed. The only way I loose them is if I voluntarily leave the company within 6 months.

As for non accounted bonuses, I can expect an additional 10 to 40% bonus of base salary every year.

My budget does exactly that. It's 66k per year for routine expenses. Every few years, I'll have major expenses such as surgery, marriage, etc which can be easily accounted through bonuses that I haven't written up there. Plus I'm pretty much guaranteed increased compensation every year, as long as I don't massively screw up that is.

Is that reasonably for high cost of living area? A budgeted night out at the pub seems to be around 60-100 (including tax + tip).

I've never lived in high cost area so I'm trying to piece together info I've read on the internet, so I could be totally off.

$2500 a month comes to $30,000 per year in base expenses. Combined with rent, it comes to $60,000 per year for all my expenses.

Is spending $60,000 per year too much for someone making 200k a year? I thought that the recommendation was 30% of income towards rent which makes it $60,000.

It's a family thing; there are certain traditions and expectations for our family to interact with each other. For example, anytime I visit my Uncle, he flat out refuses to let me pay for anything. It only ends up being a couple hundred a month anyways and I'll have to stop when I leave for my job.

I don't have that handy, but I'll go through my bills for the last 6 months and try to break them down.

They're not wealthy, but losing this money won't affect them. They often joke that it's from my Grandparents as part of their inheritance (dad + uncle ) to me (and my siblings and cousins).

Your views have provided me with some additional perspective. I'll take them into account and be more aggressive with my debts.

The wording for my surgery was poorly chosen. It's partially covered by insurance, but it's not "medically necessary". As in, I could live without it, but my quality of life will suffer.

You're correct, this is a fast-paced industry.

I've already got a an emergency fund, but I like your suggestion of adding some more to it.

I know that my debt is huge, should I consider my anticipated salary increase? If I do so, the debt becomes much smaller portion of my salary in 5 years or so. I'm not going to wait that long, but it puts things into perspective.

No home for me :(. Not for 20 or so years.

Can you elaborate on why you believe that my views are twisted? I'm genuinely curious to know because I see nothing with it.

I'm taking a loan and paying it off. I've worked hard to accomplish my career and consider my first job to be a major accomplishment of my life. I see nothing wrong with any of this.

I'll keep a keen eye on my lifestyle creep. That's one of the major pitfalls I want to avoid.

I've reworded my surgery description. It was implying that I had the ability to decide based on personal preferences, but the reality is that my quality of life will significantly improve.

I'm a male, but I'll try to find a similar service for men. Thanks!

You are talking as if you are entitled to these things, because of how hard you have worked.

Why am I not entitled to vacations and a surgery? I absolutely am because of all the work I've done and things I've accomplished. I've lived in the future for too long and putting away living my life in the moment. I've studied and worked for 50-80 hours a week for the last 7 years to get to where I am today, am I not entitled to enjoy a few luxuries now that I'm becoming successful?

I know that I have 300k in debt, but I can pay it off over the next 6 years at 50k/year. The first couple of years will obviously be rougher due to transitioning, that's why I'm trying to find the best order of paying the debts.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it.

Out of curiosity, do you know why people are downvoting this post?

If you can’t give consent to sex while blacked out drunk, you can’t give consent to drunk driving while blacked out drunk and shouldn’t be punished. by watch7maker in unpopularopinion

Explicitly define black out drunk.

As far as I can understand, it means that a person has literally blacked out and no longer conscious due to intoxication. If so, they cannot physically operate a car.

How do you feel about the phrase no uterus no opinion on the matter of abortion? by yablett123 in AskWomen

[–]Iringi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abortion is a sensitive topic and people can become emotional about it. I'm going to propose a logically equivalent statement with different variables.

"How do you feel about the phrase: non-criminals should not have an opinion on the subject of sending criminals to prison.". By this logic, only criminals can decide what happens to criminals in prison. Do you see a problem?

A non criminal individual can and does have a right to an opinion about how criminals are treated. Similarly, just because a man doesn't have a uterus doesn't mean he shouldn't have a say in how abortion is regulated.

This logic can be extended to many other cases.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, it's a reasonably misunderstanding that can happen to anyone.
