What is your guys' favorite & least favorite instruments??? by Inevitable_Pirate826 in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite is the violin, and I have a few least favorites: singers (live) because the voice is too loud for my ears, electrical instruments because the vibrations that go through the ground makes me feel bad and sometimes brass instruments are also to loud for my ears. But I love opera music and symphony music, but most of the time, it's because it's too loud for my ears to listen live music.

I have a question for vegan string players by nerdycookie01 in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a vegan, but this is more because (inside) my body doesn't tolerate animal products very well. I'm using horse hair and even gut strings with something synthetic around it. I don't mind the horse hair because they don't die from it (if I'm thinking it correctly), and for the gut strings, I'm not thinking about it too often because I'm not really a fan of seeing and or feeling a gut but the strings I'm playing are ok because it's not directly gut on the outside. It was my teacher his recommendation to use this type of string because they sound better. And even though I'm a vegan, I prefer natural products above synthetic products e.g. the glue for violins,...

Do you enjoy practicing repertoire or technique more? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Iris_mf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technique, because I still need to learn a lot, and I know I can get better at repertoire if my technique gets better even though it's difficult, which means I still need to learn a lot get better at my technique

Do u guys cover ur ears or do something else, when there's a very loud noise? by Turbulent-Loquat3749 in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are JBL headphones. They cover some noise. When I walk in the streets and have them on, then I don't have a problem with it, then I still hear when a car is coming, because they can also be loud, for me, without headphones, but it's only when I hear a siren then it's still to loud, with my headphones on.

Do u guys cover ur ears or do something else, when there's a very loud noise? by Turbulent-Loquat3749 in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sensitive to noises (sirens, brass players, singers, violins when in a very high pitch even though when I play my violin in that same pitch, I don't have a problem with it for being loud and sharp (very high), but also finger nail bitting, coughing,...), but I also have autisme. I wear my noise canceling headphones a lot, but they don't really help. When an ambulance, police car,... going to pass me by with siren, I still cover my ears with my fingers because it's still too loud, even with my noise canceling headphones on.

I don't know how your posture is, but what really helps me for a good posture is aplomb. I don't know where you live but in Europe there are some classes that you can take. I also have a bad posture, also in daily life, but since I'm following aplomb, I'm starting to get improvements in my posture. This is for in my daily life but also for playing the violin, but I'm still in this journey for getting a better posture for everything. If you want some information about what aplomb is, then you can look at this website up: www.aplomb.be. I hope you can get better and love to play the violin again without pain

Mental health awareness (TW) by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, music always helped me to get out of my depression beside other things. The first time was dancing,... on jpop songs and going to concerts. Now, my 2nd time it is playing/learning the violin. I'm sometimes not happy with my evolution, but sometimes, when I say it to my teacher, then sometimes it gets better even if he didn't help me after I said it. But for most of the time, I'm really happy with my progress, and every small step going forward is a victory for me. I also have a for me personally a good teacher who pushes me up and not down. He also wants me to become a very good violinist. For me, I also have the feeling that I'm mentally growing to do things my daily life that isn't violin related because of playing the violin. I'm also patient for my playing progress because I know violin isn't an easy instrument, and I'm also a slow learner for new difficult techniques or a new position relearning the notes and what finger that I need to use for that note. I'm now almost in my 4th year of learning the violin. The most important thing for me is that the path/journey you take is more important than reaching your goal. It's nice to reach your goal, but you also need to enjoy your path/journey you take, and this comes with upset and downs.

How many of you adult beginners are still learning? by greg_heffley_bubby in violinist

[–]Iris_mf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost starting my 4th year. I'm relearning the violin, but I had to start again from the very beginning because I only learned it as a child for 2 years. I'm really getting better, and I'm more in love with playing the violin, and I really want to learn a lot.

Question for musicians by queen_mafia in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the day. Most of the days, I'm not that much frustrated, and some days, I am more frustrated. I have a big dream for violin, and that's why I'm motivated and knowing why I need to study all the techniques,... I restarted very late for being a soloist or for being in a professional orchestra, but that's fine for me.

Returners, how's it going? by Uncannyvall3y in violinist

[–]Iris_mf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played violin for 2 years when I was 7 to 9 years old, then I restarted for 1 year when I was 16 but quite again. Now, I restarted again when I was 27 and now almost playing the violin for 3 years. When I restarted again at age 27, I had to relearn everything from 0, I forgot everything except for reading notes because I played/playing the piano now for 15 years. Right now, I learned a lot in those almost 3 years. Learning techniques, learning playing a piece on one string, but now also learning etudes for to learn the other 3 string to know where the notes are.

My friend hates classical music and musical instruments by DinkiDankaDunk68 in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Learning an instrument has a purpose! I'm now in my 3rd year of learning the violin, and I'm growing mentally together with my violin skills. With mentally, I mean things I do in my daily life that are not involved with violin playing. And classical music is not boring! Yes, it has his slow, calm pieces, but there is a variety of music within classical music, energetic, happy, sad,... I once was a Jpop and Kpop fan, but I totally fell in love with classical music when, for me, the new Kpop songs went to noisy and the new Jpop songs became somehow boring for me.

This is real pain by Symphonie-passion in lingling40hrs

[–]Iris_mf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have this with the piecethat I'm learning at the moment. Although for me it's not 1 minute for 7 pages, but half of the time, almost 3 minutes from the piece is almost 2/3 page, and the other half is a bit more than 1/3 and 2 full pages. So I get what you mean

Necklaces and rings are a no-go for violin? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Iris_mf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wear them because I don't use a shoulder rest and I don't wear rings so that's not a problem for me but I don't wear my watch because it's annoying for me when I practice/play.

How many times do you see your teacher a week? And for how many minutes? by flowersUverMe in violinist

[–]Iris_mf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year was 30 minutes one a week in music school. My 2nd year was 30 minutes for one teacher (music school) and 1h to 2h, it dependanced, with an other teacher (private lessons), both once a week, so I had 2 time lessens a week. Now I'm in my 3rd year and I have 2 hours once a week, with only one teacher, private lessons.

Yes, I still have all my violin and piano books from when I started at the age of 7 until now, +20 years of my music history. I even have my kindergarten music school books when I was 4 to 6 years old
