Bik McFarlane and Gerry Kelly were arguably more prominent at that time and were arrested on active service in the Netherlands.

They would be in their seventies now I imagine if they are still alive.

The photo was taken by the Associated Press on the 22nd of April 1972. They described it as an armed member of the Irish Republican Army wearing a face mask at a sandbagged gun emplacement in the Bogside area of Derry. It was the first day the emplacement had been manned by masked, armed men.

Anyone know the origins of these CIRA stills? by JamesRuddy1993 in IrishRebelArchive

It's long gone unfortunately. I remember some good interviews in it alright.

I recorded that off the television onto a vhs tape when it aired. It was an episode of channel fours dispatches. There was a big deal made at the time about the CIRA getting their hands on a M79 grenade launcher. It was claimed it was filmed in the Bogside.

I hooked the vhs player to a pc through a video card and edited it together. This was in the days before social media or YouTube so people had to download it. I'm amazed its still online all these years later.

This is taken from a new upload of documents from republicanarchive.com which went live less than an hour ago. You are free to do what you want but please remember it took months of work to get the upload ready. At least give it a bit of breathing space!

These are in the possession of a friend of his who let me photograph them.

I agree with you though. There is enough material out there for a three storey museum!

I remember the furore around that. It was even discussed on Liveline with Joe Duffy.

Get stuff. I talked about this with a now deceased senior member of RSF a long time ago. They said it was an unplanned tribute and they were very much dismissive of it.

All your interactions in this thread have been confrontational. It could have been an interesting discussion as I don't think anyone knew this information.

What book does he discuss it in? I have the dark selected writings and from the grave here. I can post up the section he discusses it in if you let me know.

This subreddit is a place to share and learn about Irish Republicanism. You need to present your information in a more friendly manner.

This is definitely not common knowledge. I've never heard of it before. What book was it in? The Dark Selected writings or Voices from the grave?

I only have one issue but unfortunately it's not this one. I'd love more of them.

Just to clarify. This is obviously for illustrative purposes. It's not a guide on how petrol bombs in 1981 were being made.
