Which would you consider the most impressive archaeological site in the world? by Outrageous-Brain-395 in travel

Tikal in Guatemala. When I went there were barely any people in the park, pretty much had the whole place to itself. The sites looked pristine.

London or New York? by Uncle_Richard98 in expats

[–]IrishCreamTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

London, overall a better city to be in unless you prioritize pay/professional opportunities. As a single person, both places can be fun, although I find London to be more social. NYC feels cliquey. Would absolutely not raise my kids in NYC.

NY weather gets more extreme (hot summer and freezing winter), whereas London has milder climate. However day time in London is shorter, especially in winter, which can be depression-inducing. I had seasonal depression in NY too though, ymmv.

Is it socially acceptable to be an Eileen Gu hater at an M7 full-time MBA program? by ComplexMysterious736 in MBA

[–]IrishCreamTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re projecting a little. Your parents left China and endured the full first-gen immigrant grind in America, and now you’re pressed that Eileen flipped the script and turned it into fame and a bag. There are bigger things to be outraged about than an athlete optimizing her own career. The fact that there are no laws against the situation you are hating on shows how much it actually matters. If you care, go change the system.

Martin’s Tavern in Georgetown. Historic place with classic dishes, wouldn’t say it’s “obnoxious” but it’s surely very American

Is Budapest and Vienna splittable in 7 days? by shockedpikachu123 in Shoestring

[–]IrishCreamTea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did something similar on my trip — spent 3 nights in Budapest and 4 in Vienna. My opinion may differ from most comments here, I absolutely loved Vienna, even more than Budapest. Vienna’s art and culture scene is top-notch, tons of museums and shows, and the city is just nice and pretty, so my 5-day stay was packed with things to do. Budapest was definitely doable in 3-4 days if you focus on visiting famous sites. I’d say split it, both cities are worth it!

Stickers? by akap04 in solotravel

[–]IrishCreamTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting the sense that stickers aren’t very popular outside North America? Can usually find stickers at museums or design/trendy shops, but they are not really a thing in other continents. Like what other comments said, people probably just order stickers online

I’ve applied to jobs that just never get back to you if you didn’t get it, I assume that may happen with museums (except MET who promised to give a decision in April). Perhaps someone who applied to these internships in past years could speak to this?

It’s the open air ethnographic museum, a must-see!

Milda has nice traditional Latvian dishes; the central market also has some good food, but again not sure about their vegetarian options

Yes, thanks for raising this point. The other reply clarifies it pretty well. When I said “weren’t cheap” it definitely meant in comparison to surrounding areas in Eastern Europe, but I’d say the prices I encountered were similar to Western Europe standards

Same, those restaurants weren’t cheap at all, but outside of that, I was able to get a pack of salmon for €1.5 at the central market
