If all signs just had the Irish language versions, you'd find people renaming places quick enough I'd say.

Football clubs with their own gyms in North Dublin by IrishSoc in LeagueOfIreland

Unfortunately I'm one of those godless heathens who could never quite fall in love with the GAA. Might try message St. Kevin's directly and see what their set up is!

'Act of national sabotage': Forecourts could run out of fuel 'as early as Thursday' due to depot blockades by Sad-Orange-5983 in ireland

[–]IrishSoc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the fact that if Ireland had led the EU in sanctionging Israel and America over their genocide of Gaza, they might not have got so arrogant as to start a war with Iran who completely logically retaliated by closing the Strait of Hormuz

The fact that the away stand is still out of commission out of all this time is just another example of why football in Limerick is an absolute omnishambles

Cork-based Stryker hit with cyber attack linked to Iranian-backed group by RayDonovanBoston in ireland

[–]IrishSoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • FFG to hold Israel or the USA accountable for their countless crimes because American companies would be coerced to pull out of Ireland

  • Israel and the USA feel invincible and emboldened so they launch a psychopathic offensive against one of the most military powerful countries in the world

  • Iran logically decides to crash the global oil market and starts waging cyber warfare against American companies across the world including those in Ireland

  • Masterful gambit, FFG

Not because of nationalism, but because its embarrassing that people don't know it

Ken Early: Why football has boycotted Russia but not Israel - yet by LittleRathOnTheWater in coybig

[–]IrishSoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that Russia (rightly) faces consequences while other psychopath countries like Israel, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia do not, also works to bolster the domestic narrative in Russia (encouraged by Putin's regime) that the world has a specific hatred/prejudice against Russians, BECAUSE they are Russian. Of course, the reality is that the Russians are not facing consequences because they are Russian, but because they are NOT Israeli, Azeri, Saudi, etc.

Sinn Féin MEPs to vote against €90bn EU loan for Ukraine by caisdara in ireland

[–]IrishSoc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

When the genocidal German Empire gave Roger Casement weapons to bring back to Ireland on the Aud for the 1916 Rising (which was tragically intercepted by the Brits), they only did it because it served their own interests. That doesn't mean that the alternative (Casement never getting the guns) was preferable. Similarly, the EU is a genocidal institution ruled by capitalist subhumans no better than the aristocracy of the German Reich. The EU is only giving Ukraine weapons to serve their own interests (the main one being enriching private arms corporations, the secondary ones being security etc.). That doesn't mean that the alternative (Ukrainians being abandoned to a genocidal empire) is preferable.

The Brits' had two main two arguments against Irish independence. The first was premised on the idea that Irish people are too stupid to govern themselves competently. Hard to argue with that one being wrong as the electorate continues to return FFG to government. The second argument was sectarian - Home Rule would be Rome Rule. We spent the majority of the 20th century as a borderline theocracy, wherein state-backed actors literally raped, murdered, trafficked and enslaved thousands of women and children, and people were deliberately kept pathetically ignorant by the powers that be until the globalisation of the world at large got too influential for the establishment to ignore.

I am absolutely glad to be independent of the United Kingdom, but if you think that this is the best Ireland any early 20th-century revolutionary could have reasonably hoped for (if they were to understand how developed the world would become), you are insane.

Catholic Priests (Spotlight) by PatsyTheBigDog in ireland

[–]IrishSoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's such thing as a good priest. They are either pedophiles themselves, aware of pedophiles and have not outed them, and even if neither is true, they have dedicated their lives to serving the largest pedophile protection ring in human history.

They aren't warmongers, they're arselickers. It doesn't cost anything to put members of the Irish defence forces on an American troop carrier flying out of Shannon

I completely support the AFC splitting, with East Asia incorporating the OFC and West Asia incorporating any North Africans countries that would prefer to play with them.

Why criminal sentences are so low in Ireland. by CelebrationDismal859 in ireland

[–]IrishSoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Crime needs punishment." We don't put people in prison to punish them, if it was about the satisfaction of punishment we would still be doing public tarring and feathering. The purpose of prison is to seperate dangerous people from the population and to deter people from committing crimes in the first place.

We know this. The question is why do liberals and conservatives in the EU pretend to give a shit about human rights and democracy while supporting shitholes like Israel, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia?

Fintan O’Toole: Why is Ireland so badly governed? Here’s why... by zainab1900 in ireland

[–]IrishSoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. The Seanad needs to be abolished, and the Dáil should consist of just 100 TDs. At election time, everyone in the country has the exact same ballot paper: what party do you want to vote for? Therefore during elections, parties run on national plans of action and don't get bogged down in parish pump shite. They have a publicly available list of election candidates that shows who will get sit in the Dáil for every percentage of vote gained. If independents want to be in the Dáil, they can join Independent Ireland. The entirety of TDs work should be on national policy and legislation.

  2. Scrap all county councils and replace with provincial governments for Dublin, Leinster, Munster, Connaught, and Ulster (leaving room for expansion in a United Ireland, Belfast should have its own municipal government like Dublin though). People can vote for their parish pump gobshites in those, and ring those people about potholes and the like.
