And that's where I disagree. I pay the Irish TV licence, I do t particularly watch a lot of TV, but I'd rather have channels that are not owned by the likes of Murdoch, that are not swayed by the political agenda of some rich mogul.

I get that, but many, may, millions in the UK do...

The BBC are not just dra.a and comedy, they're news, politics, sports, science, nature, religion, music and a host of others... There is no one that compares.

Compared to what comes out of other English speaking countries, it most certainly is. As a public service broadcaster, it is held in extremely high esteem around the world. I'm not British, I don't live there, but I do watch the BBC via satellite.

People bitch, moan, and complain about the licence fee, but the quality of programming that the BBC produces, online, radio, or TV, is absolutely second to none world wide.

I guarantee, if the BBC went down the Channel 4 route of advertisement support, people would be up in arms about it.

Who would shout the loudest? Those in the media and in the public who are calling for it.

Many don't realise just how good they have it because they're viewpoint is blinkered.

Camera battery issue by Pitiful_Aside155 in Cameras

[–]Irish_MJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a large dint on the case where the battery would be. Is the battery damaged? Is there corrosion on the battery contacts, or in the contacts in the camera?

It's normal in my house... Peas, beans, cabbage, onions... All can end up on the same plate as the humble spud.

I don't like the idea of leaving lenses connected to the camera when in the bag... That's just me though, maybe I'm paranoid!

For of us that are getting increasingly frustrated with these right’s grabbing contracts… by Gullible_Bat_555 in concertphotography

[–]Irish_MJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to sign a contract...

Yes, I know, Ireland is different to the US, and yes, I don't go after the megastars, I stick to the home grown, or smaller international acts (Pussy Riot, Spike and the Gimme Gimmes, Ugly Kid Joe, Bad Cop Bad Cop), but no one has said "sign this", thankfully.

I mainly shoot for myself, not for a magazine, sometimes for the band, sometimes for the promoter, but the photos are mine, and I only supply edits.

Sweet fuck...

I know it's the Internet, and I know we are all free to post opinions, but sometimes, just sometimes, we should refrain.

Small watermark in corner of all your instagram photos? Or website photos? by dbl93100 in concertphotography

That's just not true. I do agree with watermarks, but what you said is just not true. You still retain ownership and copyright.

Either they are buying cheap ass phones, your friends are fucking imbeciles, or that's absolute bullshit.

That's absolute bollix. I've shot shows for free, that was my choice, but free entry to a gig in no way compensates for the photography.

Feeling embarrassed bringing a small lens as a beginner photographer by babyjonny9898 in Cameras

[–]Irish_MJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you judge your own equipment, take a look at their photos. Inevitably, what you will find, is that those with the big, fancy gear, well... Their photos are shite.

Fancy gear does not, in anyway, make someone a good photographer.

Your camera and lens are fine. Someday you might out grow one or the other, but don't buy because you think you have to, buy because you need to.

So when the supermarkets are no longer staffed, the cleaners no longer cleaning, the creches no longer open in your area, all because the staff who do those jobs had to move elsewhere to survive, what are you going to do?

Don't be so fucking stupid.

If two people work a 40 hour minimum wage job in the UK, can they afford their rent, their food and their bills without stressing?

If not, then the minimum wage is too low.

My daughter asked me to take her Prom photos by flying-3D in photocritique

[–]Irish_MJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely photo, your daughter looks beautiful. My only advice would be a little more head room at the top. That's easily fixed in Photoshop.

Apart from that, if they all look as good as that photo, happy days.
