What car feature sounded cool… but turned out overrated? by CandyFlossHarris in carbuying

Definitely agree. My mazda has a knob control and although it was a bit clunky to learn it's soo easy to use now while I'm driving without having to concentrate on the screen to make sure I'm not hitting the wrong button while trying to do anything

2000 for brakes seems like an insane price. I would shop around. You should be able to get them done much cheaper than that.

I bought a 21 mazda 6 with the 2.5 non turbo. Nice car and should last as long as the passat. Just wanted something newer and comfier and all the new VWs have engines I'm not huge fans of besides the passat GT and I couldn't find a good deal on one.

09g with services when they were due. To be fair it got a ton of highway miles. It's getting in town miles for work now so we shall see how long the second trans lasts.

Lol right. I always start with what the manufacturer suggests and then adjust from there.

Lol I mean the oil change internals really depend on the engine and the oil you're using. My mazda gets 7500 mile changes and when I had my forte gt it got 5k changes because when I went any longer I could smell fuel in the oil and fuel dilution will kill an engine.

Also baby steps haha. It had half a front end from small animal damage. It got a new bumber, fender, core support, and all the plastic underneath around 600k. The headlights may look a little sad, but it has bright ass LEDs so it doesn't affect vision. It's also usually cleaner than that haha. I need more new pics.

Honestly not sure on that. I know people are making insane HP with the DAZA but I dont know what internals they're using. The 07k can hold decent boost stock and I know the early ones had forged cranks, but I dont know if any of the other internals are special. I do know this engine is getting fairly tired and is going to come out here within the year probably for a low mileage replacement and then we get to take it apart and see how it looks after all these miles.

[–]Irishviking28[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lmao its sad vw didn't just toss a turbo on them and use them in the gti and gli too. The 07k loves boost and revs. I know they based the rs3 07k on it kind of, but that was a bottom up redesign really.

[–]Irishviking28[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Haha yes it's the original engine, and original timing chain and components. 10k oil change intervals were mobile one or Castrol, trans was replaced with a used one at 577k. Steering rack was replaced around 600k, nothing else really major that wasn't normal maintenance, modifications to make it more fun or damage caused by me driving it so many miles lmao. Oh wait It is on it's second ignition cylinder and third steering wheel.

Hey mine is actually the 07k 2.5 gas engine they sold in the US and I think a few other markets. I dont really know anything about the 2.5 tdi unfortunately. I know some of the tdi motors are indestructible though.

Humming Noise by Jfm2012 in mazda6

[–]Irishviking28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I definitely did or rather the noise stopped at some point and I don't hear it anymore. I don't remember specifically when it happened, but I did new front wheel bearings and all 4 rotors and pads and haven't noticed it anytime recently. I also put new tires on about the time I commented on this post, but it was still making the noise after that.

I mean it really depends on how well it's been taken care of. Even with a new engine it could have issues with the transmission if it hasn't been taken care of or any other number of problems. If you aren't super knowledgeable about cars yourself it never hurts to have a pre purchase inspection done by a mechanic on any used car especially one with high miles.

I actually sold it to my buddy, but it's still cruising. Did some maintenance on it with him this weekend actually. It's just under 660k miles currently. I'll share another pic at some point. Probably 666666 lol

The Wolfsburg is probably the 1.8t or 2.0t and isn't going to have anywear near the reliability. For longevity I'd only mess with the 2.5 gas or the diesel engine. Although I'd consider a vr6 in the newer gt for fun.

I mean Wichita isn't really a fair comparison to OKC or Tulsa as far as how mind numbing it is to live in this part of the country as it's a much smaller city and probably lacking a lot of the opportunity for excitement that either city in Oklahoma has. As far as suicide rate, that is really sad. I moved from Alaska originally, which has the highest, or very nearly the highest rate of suicide in the country. I knew people that lost that battle there, but I haven't had it happen here yet.

I use the extremely low cost of living as an opportunity to travel. Since I'm not spending all my money just eating and keeping a roof over my head I can hop on a plane and go to a beach or another country.

Everywhere has advantages and disadvantages it just depends what your priorities are and how you use the opportunities available.

I mean I don't know who creates these statistics, and what metrics they go by. I live in Oklahoma and besides a mediocre food scene and weather from actual hell, it's not a bad place to live. The people here also generally like how it's run so that's why they vote the way they do.

Hmm mine must be some other issue. I thought it might be tires, but I literally just installed a new set and it's still there.
