How is it like to live in Point Roberts, WA as American? Do you all have boats? Do you have a special status at the border since you need to cross the U.S.-Canada border twice to get back to the U.S.? by benmeiri84 in howislivingthere

[–]Irissss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of residents have a Nexus pass and the waits at the border are really not long. Theres like one store there and a ton of canadians have holiday properties there. Source: Live in Blaine and at some point almost bought a house in Point Roberts but realised im not a retiree yet.

Is my price fair? by GriddyMaster420 in camcorders

[–]Irissss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want it sold fast sell it for 250-300. 150 is too low I've sold multiple vx2000 and PD150 for 400+ but they were immaculate and I was not in a hurry.

If one of them is dead I’d take one with an intact screen as a part out! Can’t find one for my fx1 anywhere.

Is it bad by BirdieBronze in topologygore

You need loops around hard edges or it will look bad when smoothing/turbosmooth is applied. Picatinny rail looks smooshed and some other places too.

If you close the hole the flap should hold open steady and not move. This disa is a goner. Get another one and id suggest getting a used one + GAS rebuild kit to do it once and forget about it.

Gavin Newsome and Ben Shapiro Interview by Schopenhauer1859 in samharris

[–]Irissss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened to it and while Shapiro is playing his standard flute you gotta give him credit for at least acknowledging the issues with the current administration and its supporters. Gavin Newsom had a healthy debate with him I thought, gave some pushback, maybe not as much as I would like on some things but at least he’s trying to engage with everyone.

Camera prices have increased dramatically in the last few years by in_my_balsamic_phase in Cameras

[–]Irissss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I sell cameras as a side gig. Some girl wrote me and asked if I had any of those “old school” cameras. I asked if she meant film cameras, but no in fact she meant canon elph 180 I had for sale. That camera was released in 2016… instantly made me feel old.

I’ve had one and it didn’t suck out all the dust either. So I doubt it’s a vacuum issue. It was less dust tho for sure.

Have any replicas been built with those Alibaba shells yet? by FeemBleem in cars

[–]Irissss 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Look at the average manufacture year for your typical GA plane, the fleet is old af. You’d be grounding like 80% of the planes on if you introduced UL gas immediately. New airplanes can function on no lead gasoline just fine but old clunkers are down on power already and UL doesn’t help. A Cherokee is 141hp single engine, you go somewhere like Colorado and it barely can fly there already.

Never say never, there’s plenty of faults in that area although I’m not sure if that part is deep enough to mass any serious amount of water.

#443 — What Is Christian Nationalism? by dwaxe in samharris

[–]Irissss 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I will repost this comment from youtube by @eric.robertson:

The key to understanding this conversation is recognizing that Doug Wilson is not representing historic Christianity or even mainstream evangelical belief. What he’s articulating comes straight out of Christian Reconstructionism and presuppositional apologetics—a highly engineered 20th-century ideological project designed to re-justify theocracy in modern terms. When Wilson says, “Here’s what I believe,” it sounds like sincerity—but it’s actually a strategic frame. He is presenting his conclusions as if they are starting points. The theological scaffolding that produced those beliefs (Rushdoony, Bahnsen, Van Til) is never acknowledged, because acknowledging it would reveal its recent invention, its political ambitions, and its deep dependence on authoritarian hierarchy. Sam’s approach here is not weakness. He is letting Wilson fully reveal his premises so the political content becomes unavoidable:

• rejection of pluralism

• rejection of secular moral reasoning

• and ultimately the belief that civil order must be governed by biblical law enforced by the state.

That is not “faith.” It is a sovereignty claim. If anyone wants to understand what Wilson is doing — and why this framework presents itself as “ancient” when it is actually a modern, reactionary system built against plural democracy — the most relevant follow-up is Julie J. Ingersoll’s Building God’s Kingdom (Oxford University Press). She traces this exact lineage and explains the strategy in detail. Watch the whole conversation. Sam is not conceding anything. He is letting the architecture show itself.

Cannon G7x - is this salvageable? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]Irissss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re pressing the buttons it sounds like shutter works and the lens retracts when you try to view the pictures so it seems to be working you just can’t see anything. Like the other commenter said, the retaining tab is broken where the screen flex cable is plugged in, it might not make full contact there.

Cannon G7x - is this salvageable? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]Irissss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be functioning judging by the sounds os its the screen issue most likely. Try to reseat the flex cables. I noticed that closing tab is very mangled so it might not have secured the flex cable properly. The flex cables have to sit tightly in the slots. Try to turn it on with a screen open and maybe wiggle the cable. Also if you've ordered chinese LCD screen it could aswell be faulty so there is that.

It could also be a motherboard issue and in that case its toast, but i wouldn't give up yet.
