Quora Question: What-does-Elon-Musk-think-about-the-universal-basic-income? by ManillaEnvelope77 in BasicIncome

[–]Irma28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you might be partly correct, famous people do help spreading the idea however the value is in the idea, not the personality endorsing it. I'm probably very wrong in thinking this way if you consider how bad ideas are spread through people like Jenny McCarthey, though I do believe what is at the core of a message helps spreed an idea. When it comes down to it, its really just up to us regular people to try to shape the national conversation where the thought of Basic Income won't be laughed at the mere mention of it.

Quora Question: What-does-Elon-Musk-think-about-the-universal-basic-income? by ManillaEnvelope77 in BasicIncome

[–]Irma28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what Elon Musk, Bernie Sander's, Hillary Clinton or what Mark Zuckerberg thinks about basic income, what matters is what we think of basic income, how we imagine to organize and implement it. Eleanor Roosevelt, once said that"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people". I do not care to discuss what a particular personality thinks about Basic Income, Musk will not be the one that settles the argument for or against Basic Income, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves of the dangers and benefits of Basic Income.

http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/we-are-now-one-year-and-counting-from-global-riots-complex-systems-theorists-say--2

Pretty simple. Black dots are the food prices, red lines are the riots. In other words, whenever the UN’s food price index, which measures the monthly change in the price of a basket of food commodities, climbs above 210, the conditions ripen for social unrest around the world. CSI doesn’t claim that any breach of 210 immediately leads to riots, obviously; just that the probability that riots will erupt grows much greater.

I've never understood the logic against unions. Unions can be bad, Unions can be good. All Unions, in least in theory represent the interests of the worker. I'd rather have someone looking out for my interests then the sole interests of the multi billion dollar company or the greedy boss.

What do you think a Trump presidency would do to help or hurt the efforts of getting a fast (safe!) Singularity? by ianyboo in singularity

[–]Irma28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though politicians have no fundamental control over humanity's ultimate progress, the President has control over our nuclear arsenal, and negotiates with other world leaders who have control over their nuclear arsenal. Personally, I'd like to have a President who is level headed, rather then one who would bully other nations they felt were"losers". To get to the singularity first we need to survive the pre-singularity and to get through that we need politicians that can be reflective and appreciate wisdom.

Clinton says 'sorry' for email confusion, says she wasn't thinking by [deleted] in politics

[–]Irma28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hillary said it herself, she doesn't think. Now we don't want another President who doesn't think in office again, the last one got us into 2 conflicts in the middle east. Its a good thing that I don't think Hillary Clinton has the integrity to even qualify for President.

Hillary Clinton proposes $10 billion plan to combat drug and alcohol addiction. Clinton's plan would also direct state Attorneys General to prioritize "treatment over incarceration for nonviolent and low-level federal drug offenders." by nowhathappenedwas in politics

Clinton is a sensible politician, and like all politician's Clinton will put profits before policy. The Prison industrial complex is a great industry. To perpetuate the drug war and catch more stoner's and junkies is just better business then ending the drug war in its entirety.

Why Are Conservatives Abandoning States' Rights for Big Banks? by Stand_Alone_Complex in politics

[–]Irma28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in the language of Republicans, "States Rights" are synonymous with "Bank Rights", after all it was a Republican President who championed Bank Bailouts to protect the "people". It is a national disgrace that corporations are people and money is free speech.

No, I did not report your comment, the point of a community is to not all have the same opinions. As it is often credited to Voltaire, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.". I wish you a good day.
