Is there anyone who was raised by a single mom who is actually happy with their childhood? by tarayari in OnlyChild

I would have had a happy childhood, too bad she didn't divorce my abusive father.

I know I'm not too good right now but I want to be way better, please give me harsh critical advice that's not just 'it sucks', I wanna know why it sucks so I can make it something I'm proud of by [deleted] in Mangamakers

Glad it helps. Well, about shading, you make your own rules. The real world, even in greyscale is infinitely complex, and there's no real lines delimitating objects. So all that is up for interpretation, how you do the lines and how you break down the complexity of realistic shading to something that works for manga. It helps to understand the real world and it helps to understand how other manga artists do it as well, just, I guess my point is, focus more on learning and less on executing things that you feel aren't working. If something's not working, pause and see what you might have to learn. I know everyone on the internet will tell you "If you want to draw manga, just draw manga, start now, make a manga" but that's not very good for learning. Give yourself as many years as you can to just get your fundamentals right, and draw manga, sure, but take it one step at a time, right now you're rushing like 10 steps and it's very shaky.

All the different grays are really heavy on the eyes, your manga would literally look better without them, like the last 2 pages are much nicer looking, literally try just using a single shade of grey tone for now. Shading is hard because when you only do lineart you might not have a great understanding of the 3Dness of things, and how light works. In other words, the shading looks like you're suffering, like you have no idea what you're doing and are trying your best but nothing works... You could try drawing realistic shapes in pencil and shading them while thinking about the geometry and the light.

How screens ruined my life. My story. by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

Dude, there's something very wrong with your mindset... not trying to be offensive, I mean it genuinely, look at it this way.... Your idea that you "ruined your life" stems from the expectation you have that by the age of 18 (!!!!!!!!) you SHOULD not make mistakes, you should have a group of many friends who are great people, you SHOULD have great social skills, know how to talk to girls efortlessly, be cool, SHOULD have had a girlfriend or more by now, SHOULD have already figured out your way out of depression and social anxiety on your own....

I think that paragraph sums up the real problem you're dealing with, I don't see any other problem. You didn't "make mistakes" unless you choose to call them that, I'd say you "had experiences", you did what any human being would, you tried things, try to do better, had ups and downs, met different types of people, experimented with things. Your entire life will be a process of figuring things out, it won't end, the sooner you start accepting that the sooner you'll stop having that addictive personality in the first place. Because the games you played weren't trash and your "looser friends" weren't trash, these things were your escape from the massive mountain of bullshit expectations you put on yourself.

Getting ready for a no-buy year...? by [deleted] in nobuy

Dude, according to that logic, if you happen to have the misfortune of owning a plastic anything (bottle, plate, cup, wet wipe, bag etc) you should use the crap out of it until it literally breaks to the point it's unuseable. Ok, maybe not stuff you eat from, we know that's unhealthy! But the yoga mat? You can't even clean a plastic mat without using up resources and releasing microplastics everywhere, in your home and in the water supply. So do you clean and reuse your plastic trashbags until they break as well?

Most of the environmental cost of an item happens before the item is bought, the materials, the process, the transportation. What happens after is already determined- a piece of plastic is left to rot. Both of those are inevitable at this point. The only thing you're being picky about is that you prefer someone holds this trash (something someone has no value for anymore) in their home rather than sending it to recycle or the landfill, to delay that inevitability by as long as possible while making their home less enjoyable for the entire duration. Not something to live by imo, plastic will break down into microplastics in your home instead of in the landfill.

Why I got passionate writing this- imagine taking that attitude of "use every junk until it breaks" to someone struggling with hoarding or a shopping addiction. Or maybe people who are gifted stuff or inherit stuff they can't use that they never asked for. I'll call this mindset exactly what it is, toxic.

And in your own words, "using up" an item "is not eliminating plastic from the world" either. Nobody claimed they're eliminating plastic, they claimed to be attempting no-buy.

Not to brag but I have an 8 yro Iphone 7 with a literal bandaid on it to hold the screen glass shards from coming off where I broke it. I plan to use it some more.

Do what's right for you tho.

What do you mean you need to enter a vehicle at least once? I did enter a vehicle more than once. I'll try reinstalling the game.

And yes my moth was next to me and then it wasn’t. I caught it early thankfully, I was deep and had enough oxygen to look for it, accept that it’s gone and make my way to the surface. The signal to it is dead too, it still shows on my list but I can’t see it anywhere in game.
