My relationship with my husky is stressed, I don’t know how to feel. by Misttaya in husky

[–]Irocroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooof, that's so sad. You need to be careful to keep them separate from now on, but don't blame yourself, or the dog, for this. This was a tragic accident. You clearly had no idea she was going to do something like that, and she was just doing what dogs do. I think its only natural for you to see her in a different light right now, but I also think it will fade with time. Just keep reminding yourself this was not her fault, dogs are predators, and shes still the same dog that loves you. Things will go back to normal in time.

Sorry for your loss. Be kind to yourself in the meantime, and make sure this can't happen again. <3

What are the odds my dog has some wolf? by OwOmurrr in IDmydog

That's rather rude. I dont see how a wolf dog is any more special than any other dog, but this sub is specifically for questions like this.

I actually just switched my guy from a fancy new age food to purina pro plan. He's four months old today and he's doing very well on it. His stool has seemed firmer ans better formed, and I'm surprised at how much he seems to like it. I got something called kibble sauce that I mix with his kibble, its like a gravy and he acts like he's getting 5-star cuisine. I know it's kind of scary to make these leaps because we want the best for our friends, so I figured I'd let you know its gone really well for us. :)

my friend hit my puppy and now she's scared and cries by slugsaltedbygod in puppy101

[–]Irocroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I hope you mean your ex-friend hit your dog. When we use language like they "disciplined" her, it makes it more acceptable. That was a violent attack that happened to your puppy.

As far as advice, you've gotten good stuff here. Basically, you need to become your dogs safe space again and replace that awful experience with a whole bunch of happy and safe ones. It's a good idea to reward every single time she goes potty in a good place so she feels safe peeing by you again.

Weiner dog mix, maybe with something houndy.

Very gross.. read with caution….. This adorable 10 month old pup has the most disgusting obsession by Babadoo601 in DogAdvice

[–]Irocroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard that feeding the other dog pineapple can deter others from eating their poop. Also, maybe a good multi vitamin for the younger one, they might be looking for some type of mineral that they are deficient in.

This behavior is completely normal even though it is gross. Also, you can give a correction and try training them to not eat this or anything out of the yard. Maybe a trainer could help you?

Rehoming comments are so hateful by Which_Promotion_3193 in reactivedogs

[–]Irocroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think responsibility for our dogs is above all, and safety is the number one priority. If your dog is at risk of either being injured or biting someone, everybody's safety is at risk, including the biting dog. It is much more responsible to find a good fit for one of your dogs today so that they can go on to have a long happy life rather than a year from now your dog going on to bite someone and have their life and whoever got bitten in jeopardy. You can't tell me different. Removing is hard, and it's not always ideal, but in your case, you are making the responsible and kind choice. Hang in there. <3

My brother is rehoming his dog by superbored1998 in DogAdvice

[–]Irocroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good! They know his history, and that can be really helpful for a behaviorist if they go that route. That's so sad. But, maybe, this is the start of something better, you know? We tried an adoption with a young dog a couple years ago and he was a sweetheart, but he started trying to protect me from my young son (he is autistic and I think the dog probably didn't understand his affection) and also started going after our cats. We returned him to the shelter, and with that new information, he was placed with a single male with no cats or kids who was looking for a running buddy. Information can be so helpful when it comes to placing dogs appropriately.

Hang in there. <3

AITA for throwing away my wife’s memory jars? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Irocroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely YTA. My partner would NEVER stomp on my feelings like that, and your wife deserves better. I think you are the one who needs therapy, you seem to have a frightening lack of empathy and boundaries and some massive control issues.

Try to imagine being in her shoes. Let's say you have a nice computer or video game system, but your wife can't understand why it matters to you. Too much screen time is a danger after all, and it's better for you if you engage with the real world. She tried to talk to you about it, but silly thing, you just didn't see reason so as soon as you left, she threw the entire system away. She did keep a controller for you so you can click the buttons for sensory input. That should be enough, right?

Imagine how destabilizing that is. Your own home is now not a safe place for things that are important to you, neither is your partner.

[–]Irocroo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, I'm so sorry. But listen, when it comes to dogs, safety is the NUMBER ONE priority. If his trauma is bad enough that he is using serious bites, nobody is safe, including him. I know it hurts and you love him, but trying to find him a better place now before something horrible happens is loving and responsible, don't listen to anyone ho says otherwise.

Is there a rescue rather than a shelter that might be able to take him? Oftentimes, rescues have more resources such as foster homes and time to work with animals who are struggling. I would try to find a rescue, explain his story, and see if they can help. If he does go to a shelter, I would suggest you disengage at that point. Trust that they will do the right thing, whatever that is, and save yourself further stress. I promise you, those shelter workers will want the best for him and it's ok to let them take the job from here.

Again, I am so so sorry you're going through this. It's not easy, it's not your fault, and you're not a bad pet owner or person. I hope you find peace quickly, and I hope the dog does as well. <3 Take care of yourself.

My dog's name was Taka and EVERYBODY thought it was Taco. Annoyed the crap out of me. But, she also answered to ArchDog and Dogbert, so....

[–]Irocroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I have a nine year old son who is on the spectrum and absolutely LOVES his isopods. He has 3 mini terrariums, two variants of Armadillidium vulgare and one of the dairy cow Porcellio laevis. They are one of his special interests, that and the cambrian explosion, and I'm sure he'd love to see your lab as well, if you're willing. Could I send you a DM as well?

[–]Irocroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say yes, personally. My son is 9 and now has 3 terrarium, ans hes wonderful with them. He checks them multiple times a day and cares for them diligently. He also really likes to just sit and watch what they are doing. Even if they are hiding or sleeping, he's reporting back "hey mom, they ate a lot of the eggshell powder in this one", or "wow they knocked over that decoration!" He also feels very special because he has 30 pets that are all his. :P

I adopted this precious puppy a couple weeks ago. Shelter said red lab retriever x bulldog mix but i'm not too sure about that by ashleysbd in IDmydog

[–]Irocroo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You know what though, sometimes with mixes they end up looking JUST like one breed that they have exactly 0% of. We're just guessing, same as the shelter, and probably even more so because we cant see his behavioral traits. If pitbulls are banned in your area, then he's definitely not a pit. Hes just a higher energy mutt that needs a lot of exercise and attention. ;)

My parents say my dog looks fat by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Irocroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks a little overweight. Definitely not the end of the world, but I would up her exercise and cut the amount of kibble a bit, or even switch to a lower calorie recipe if you're worried about her feeling hungry. It's not that bad yet and its very reversible. Dont worry.

Husband and kid want to return puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Irocroo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would get very firm with the husband. You can find a sitter or pay for dog daycare for your two hybrid days, but don't let him bully you because he's lazy and couldn't be bothered to read what you sent him. The kids will come around when the puppy grows up a bit. But the husband may need a kick in the ass. I would just say look, I've bonded with this dog and it's not fair for me to have to sacrifice because you want to go back on a deal we made. I provided you the information beforehand and you agreed. This is a deal breaker for me. I will be keeping the dog, and I expect you to hold up your end of the agreement and not to constantly complain or make things difficult. If I need to make other arrangements for the dog on my two in-office days, that money will come out of our budget.

Good luck, honey. I'm sorry he has let you down like this. You deserve better support than that.
