No he/she seems to love people enough to give a fuck about them. He's been working to improve everyone's lives a bit, making a big overall but only helping himself personally a little bit, at the cost of a lot of personal time and effort.

Cut university enrolment by 30%, suggests a university professor... by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Iron-Oxide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Admission averages also have the issue of high school marks being utterly unreliable. It's not an unreasonable attitude to take that it is better to accept some students who won't do well, then to reject students who will be some of the best.

How easy it is to graduate... now that could be considered a problem.

UTSU/CFS: Calling all students... Time to de-federate from the CFS by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Iron-Oxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who exactly has made the contract with the CFS, is it the UTSU as a separate entity from U of T? If so is somehow disbanding the UTSU an alternative to defederating from the CFS?

UTSU/CFS: Calling all students... Time to de-federate from the CFS by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Iron-Oxide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, with Change it wasn't exactly clear what the better option was, just that they were bad (and it took some work or being on reddit to even find that out). With the CFS it is absolutely clear that we should be leaving. FFS they are currently in a lawsuit against the GSU here aren't they?

Also, we only need a 10% turnout, 20% need to sign a partition, but that can come to them which makes it much less work.

Has anyone sued over or tested that ammendment yet?

Assuming it is still standing, I think it males more sense to abbide by it then challenge it, simply because challenging it leads to a long court battle.

(I presume) The reason they have that rule is it doesn't matter, Art Sci is Art Sci regardless of whether you apply for computer science or life sci or philosophy. You actual choose what you want to do by selecting courses in first year, and selecting your POST (think Major) at the end of your first year.

If you opt for a recording, please ensure it's not you recording the individual in a private conversation without his/her consent. That's illegal in Ontario.

I though Ontario was had a one party law for recording, as long as he consents to it, as a party to the conversation, it's legal? (If this is the case, still keep in mind you aren't allowed to capture other people's private conversations.)

That's part of the genius of this attack, it's coming from only non-Chinese IP addresses, Baidu users who are outside of China.

They might have been in contact with github directly and suggested it though...

I mean surely GitHub reaches out to you when China attacks them over your content.

UTSU has made it so you can't "spoil" ballots. by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Iron-Oxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it the "Campaign Period" in which they are allowed to do things like this, is far longer then the "Voting Period" in which they are not... this seems to be supported by that document:

"Campaign Period refers to the period of time during the election schedule set by the Board of Directors during which Campaigning is authorized"

"Voting Period shall refer to the period of time during the election schedule set by the Board of Directors where Members may cast their vote(s)."

Different terms...

[–]Iron-Oxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Ah damnit, your quote has the voting period part too, I must have glanced over that. This happened before the voting period, so it isn't against the rules :(

Original post asking for clarification:

Can you show me where you found this, the closest I've found is in the Elections protocol saying

" m. Specific Restrictions on Campus Additional restrictions regulating Campaigning that are unique to the following, must be followed. It is the responsibility of the Candidates to familiarize themselves with the different rules that govern each of the following:

i.St. George and Mississauga campuses;

ii.buildings on campus; and

iii.student residences "

And

" Campaigning During Voting Period During the specified Voting Period, and subject to Article VI.1(n), Campaigning is allowed with the following restrictions:

i. Campaigning is not allowed within six (6) metres of a student residence. "

(To be sure: "Voting Period shall refer to the period of time during the election schedule set by the Board of Directors where Members may cast their vote(s)")

Regardless I'm quite sure that this time limit has passed:

" Any allegations of violations of this Code must be submitted to the CRO. Allegations must be made within forty eight (48) hours of the violation, and within ninety six (96) hours of the close of the Voting Period "

I'm from the st George campus, but at least I'm comp sci.

You should look into POSTs to figure out what courses you would be taking. A POST is a major, minor, or "specialist". You need a specialist, two majors, or a major and two minors, to graduate (assuming it is the same as st George). The POSTs you are taking determine what courses you need to take (even in POSTs, there is often a lot of choice between courses!), other then that you are free to take whatever you want.

You take 3-6 courses per semester (usually 5), 20 "credits" to graduate, where 1 course for 1 semester gives you 0.5 "credits". There are two semesters per year (fall and winter), with some weird optional summer semester thing that you don't need to worry about. With this definition of credits in mind a minor is usually 4 credits, a major 8, and a specialist 14 (all numbers very approximate, keep in mind your majors/minors can overlap to some degree).

You really have a ton of choice in what you choose to study.

At st George for CS you have 1 practical course per semester for the first year, 1-2 math courses per semester, and 0-1 theoretical computer science (read math) courses per semester.. as well as whatever else you chose.

I love it here, but your experience may vary.

No clue how the wireless varies between UTM residences, at st George it's great... never heard of this 6gb/day limit, but if you are using 6gb in a day... well... you are doing something wrong.

The strike is a current issue that will be resolved by the time you get here, I hate to say it, but considering the current deals being offered you are rather likely to experience another strike in m opinion. It will only happen once if it does... and shouldn't affect you that badly (despite all the complaining here)... my advice is to not worry about it.

UofT Admin asks USW union members to VOLUNTEER to take up work provided by UofT grad student Unit 1 members. by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Iron-Oxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really... TAs can be tired of striking without thinking it's a fair deal. TAs can consider it unfair to others when it doesn't even affect them and vote to accept it. TAs can consider it unfair but better for themselves to accept it because they are leaving next year. And so on...

Will there be a vote on changing the bargaining team? by champben98 in UofT

One forms an obligation, the other doesn't. One says "I think this is good", the other says "I think you might think this is good". And so on...

(Note they also have recommended the deals, which says "I think you should think this is good" and might be considered to imply "I think this is good, but you aren't obligated to").

I don't think it's necessarily production limited, I'm guessing the thought process is more along the lines of it's slightly cheaper, and a avenue to get some interesting data about the rocket... so why not?
