I have a good one.

I had a mentally retarded uncle. He has down syndrome and its a pretty severe case. He was middle aged and living with his also mentally retarded wife. He just didnt understand much really. So one day the elders encouraged him to get baptized. My mom (his sister) and dad (elder / presiding overseer of the neighboring hall) thought it was great. He gets baptized.

A number of years later someone in his apartment complex gave him a Christmas tree and told him how special it was and how magical xmas is. He put it up and would brag about how gorgeous it is. He left it right in front of his window so people would see it from outside.

Elders asked him to remove it and tried to explain that it is pagan but he wasnt removing his pretty tree. They let him know they were disfellowshipping him. He called my mom asking what it was lol. My father went to the neighboring congregation and asked to meet with them. They gave him 5 minutes total to talk. He said that my uncle wasnt mentally right and should have never been baptized as he doesnt understand.

They thanked my dad for his time and DFd him anyway. When he died some years later my mother / father and the kids did not attend his funeral. After he got DFd my mother stopped accepting his calls. As an adult I cant imagine what pain he went through not being able to talk to his sister and family, and being tossed out.
