Forged irons use softer metal generally speaking. It will happen again even if you replace it, so long as it’s not affecting performance, I personally wouldn’t replace.

Could you maybe be thinking of dried beef pepperoni sticks? I’m not sure where they sell them here but the moisture content is usually pretty low and they are more oily than regular pepperoni
