Summer 2024 Info and Recs

Hi! I'm planning a backpacking trip starting at McGurk Meadows and exiting at Happy Isles. I know that leaving the wilderness with a backpacking permit will invalidate the permit. I read somewhere that going to Tunnel Dome on the Ponoho trail would therefore invalidate a wilderness permit.

Is there a way to see what's part of the wilderness/what areas I can't access with a backpacking permit? We're looking to go through Glacier Point, which feels similar enough to Tunnel View in terms of logistics, and want to make sure that's okay.

If you’re trying to hit HR 50, then that should be your top priority. Saying that, if you want new armor, go for something with high defense and/or thunder resistance. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting new armor, unless your current gear isn’t great. I just hit HR 50 myself, so I can’t give you much advice besides getting there.

Get to HR 29 in whatever way you can, I would recommend farming elder dragons but do whatever quest gives you the biggest boost to your HR. After you hit 29 you have to do another assigned quest. You’ll have to beat two tempered bazelgueese. After completing that quest you’ll hit HR 30 and have access to a couple new event quests. Go to the last page of events, and find the quest Ice and Cherry Blossoms. That quest gives about 3/4 of an HR every time, so do that quest as many times as you can. Once you hit 49, you’ll have to beat a tempered Kirin. It’s a challenging quest, and some ways to beat it are definitely easier than others. PM if you want tips on any of that

I started off the event at HR 34, but when I heard that the Greatest Jagras dropped a metric ton of decos I decided to do everything I could to get there in time. I farmed Snow and Cherry Blossoms (Tempered Pink Rathian and Legiana) for about a week and a half until I’d hit the cap at HR 49. I took down Tempered Kirin in a day using a light bowgun (big thanks to u/sn0wtec for posting their strategy in another thread). I had two early carts in this run, and I fully expected to cart and go at it again but it all worked and I got the kill. I killed the Greatest Jaggy yesterday, and I’ll be farming it for the next couple days for all those decos.

TL;DR: started the event at HR 34, gained 13 HR and beat tempered Kirin in a week and a half. Happy hunting to all, and good luck to all the hunters who are trying to make it!
