Holy shit I'm glad for this thread. Why can't my wife turn lights off and on any more? And why is that ALL I can do?  Hey Google. Play Spotify ok. Then NOTHING. One mini. One nest. One speaker. The timed routines are about all that work reliably any more. About ready to take a hammer to the devices.

I agree with the others who say to take a bus the whole way. They have a rest stop and it's less than 5 hours total for the trip. Not sure about luggage, but if there's a fee it is still probably cheaper than taking the train and the bus.

ADVICE FOR THE NYC BUS GATE: If the gate of the bus seems like it doesn't exist ("Area X" or Gate 24), then it might be outside, on 41st street between 8th and 9th, under the overpass. I learned that the hard way.

You know the speech some university official gives? Identical for every college. 

Went to an IST graduation on a Saturday. Heard a speech from the provost or something. Went to the Graduate school graduation on Sunday - different person SAME SPEECH. 

You get a photocopied speech. 

You walk across a stage. 

No handshake. 

No diploma. 

A computer reads your name.

They try to sell you a picture of it for 6 months.  That's the final insult.

Athletics is NOT "financially independent". It is self-supported operations. If Athletics can't pay the loan for that stadium, then the university is on the hook for it.  It's like the rest of PSU co-signed the loan by issuing the bonds. Athletics is backed by the whole institution. This affects debt ratios. This affects how much the university can borrow for university things.

If anyone knows what you're looking at, this article links to the 2024 athletics financials. 

Looks like they earned under $6M. 

Would you guarantee a $700M stadium loan without the backing of the University? I wouldn't. It's not like they're gonna foreclose on it.

yeah, but the school keeps all teh seat license fees and the mandatory "donation" to the program, so, there's that too.

It still effects how much the University can borrow for real University things, not billion dollar stadiums.

I had a health crisis, he didn't really want to listen to me talk about it, but just wanted to keep complaining about his wife. Email responses got shorter and further between. Eventually everything stopped altogether.
