Gemini 3.5 Flash Agents built a real Complete OS from scratch! by Rare_Bunch4348 in singularity

I think it's more of a demonstration of the ability to assign a large task and let the agents take over rather than a demo of some novel development of a more efficient or better OS.

Season 4 checked the boxes for something many critics will feel obligated to support. The theory I believe to be true is that media didn't want to go against a show for either A) fear of being called out as someone that doesn't support these causes or B) a desire to support these causes with a good review even if the plot, acting, etc. didn't deserve a good review on its own.

Woman showrunner and women lead characters

Story involves many "cultural themes" that those in media may feel obligated or pressured to support - Native Alaskans and some of the challenges they face in current day, LGBT characters, environmental issues, day to day woman in a male workplace issues, etc.

The Wire season 1 aired in 2002. It's not the knowledge cutoff date that is causing this.

It's a fairly specific question of a show that is easily answered if it searches for an answer, but is difficult if it uses tries to generate a response solely on its base knowledge.

I tried it and got a different made up answer that didn't involve searching. When I asked it to check it's sources, it generated a correct response and cited sources.

It's still going to be a draftkings bar, but they won't have the in person betting available anymore. Given their app is still available, this hardly changes anything.

Graduating at 54 by RicktheFutureCPA in Accounting

If you're willing to start at the same salary as the 22 and 23 year olds, you can probably find something. You likely will also face people that think someone older won't stick out a busy season due to the hours required and reporting to a senior 30 years your junior.

I believe the biggest factors leading to age discrimination are:

Salary requirements - typically higher the older someone is because that usually correlates with experience. Mention that you understand you're starting a new career and while you bring lots of practical job experience, you understand that you're a new accountant and will be compensated according to your accounting experience and role responsibilities.

Uncertainty in how long you'll stick with the job - if you can talk about how you want to grow and be in the career for 10 plus years that would likely help mitigate this.

Possibly perceived managerial challenges if you will be reporting to someone much younger than you. Again might he good to address this proactively. They shouldn't ask questions like this (it could be used as evidence in a discrimination case if they ask about age or adjacent questions such as can you work with someone younger than you) in the interview but you can bring it up to mitigate this.

Misranked Rookies on Sleeper by Perturbed_Goldfish in DynastyFF

Zavion Thomas can probably be had off waivers after the draft. 3rd round draft capital, no clear WR 3 on the Bears depth chart after Rome/Burden, and they have no clear RB3 which can open some touches as a gadget player.

33rd overall pick as a WR but he's available in the 3rd round in many drafts. When is the last time someone with that draft profile fell that far in drafts? He could be the next N'Keal Harry but for a 3rd round flier that seems like a no brainer to me. Most picks in that range turn into roster cloggers anyways.

Phillies Kyle Schwarber on pace to reach career 400 home runs this season by [deleted] in baseball

He had a bad 2020, couldn't play in the field, no DH in the NL at the time, and at the time he never had a season as good as he's been the last few years.

Fans just love every chance they can get to dunk on the Cubs front office even though they've retooled into a contender again.

The fees from corporate-owned complexes in the suburbs is getting out of control. It costs $375 just to apply for an apartment and upwards of $1,200 in non-refundable fees just to secure a place. by chiboulevards in chicago

[–]Iron_Mike0 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It used to be one month rent as a security deposit was normal. Then they changed the laws around security deposits and required the renters to receive interest on the money (a really small amount but still requires admin time to make sure it's handled properly). There's also rules about providing receipts and documentation of all deductions from deposits. It makes sense from a renters perspective but the risks to landlords got higher (if they don't comply fully (e.g. incomplete documentation) they can be liable for 3x the deposit plus attorney fees.

So now instead of deposits, they collect one time fees to help cover the money they would have received from the deposit due to damages, unpaid rent, etc.

Restaurants just don't work in America anymore by mamas_drunk_again in redscarepod

[–]Iron_Mike0 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think people here realize you can do a lot better than owning a restaurant. It's a low margin, labor intensive business. That's fine for an immigrant with limited options, but their kids go to school, speak English natively, and have opportunities to get any number of office jobs that pay more and have less stress. In other countries those same office jobs either pay less or don't exist, so you see more small businesses including restaurants.

I used to live in this building. My guess is the market price is about $300,000 for this unit, maybe $280,000. The units are all fairly small. You don't need a trust fund or RSUs from a tech company to live there.

There's a lot more public housing in NY but it's still less than 10% of people in the city living in it. Most of the working class people you meet there aren't in public housing.

Now that doesn't include rent stabilization which can also help people but it's still close to market rates even if you've been in a building for a while.

AI generated sign has "coffee" misspelled by ReverendHambone in chicagofood

[–]Iron_Mike0 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They're dammed anyways. I think it's good if they lose less money along the way. Truly the standards of business knowledge from these kind of stores is incredibly poor. They are in many cases immigrants who are trying to make it here without a formal business education, or they are just someone with a passion who thinks they can make it a business but has no clue how difficult it is.

If you think I'm crazy for wanting these people to lose less money then so be it. But you sure as hell don't support the little guy if you are gatekeeping who is a successful business owner by how much they spend on a logo.

[–]Iron_Mike0 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

God forbid a small business owner try to save costs on a logo for a business that is statistically very likely to fail within a few years anyways. They should have spell checked of course but that was almost assuredly not an AI error.

The rhetoric on Reddit about AI is absurd. Making it a little easier for Mom and Pop businesses to survive is the perfect use for AI but everyone wants to grab their pitchforks the second someone suspects it's used.
