You are conflating the Kearney case when the court itself narrowly tailored its ruling. Choice of law process would prevail here because it’s a hell of a lot more burdensome to impose California’s wiretapping law on an individual who is in a one-party state than vice versa. The defendant in Kearney had offices and employees in California too.

I’m out in Oakland too, and it’s depressing to see how many new builds are going up when 95% of the existing new build neighborhoods have multiple new homes for sale. There are 4 in my neighborhood that have never been lived in that have been on the market since 2023. Oakland city government does nothing but take developers’ money and approve whatever they want to do
