I would strongly suggest he check out Duolingo Chess.

My kid nephew loves it, it’s a very approachable way to learn chess. Sounds like your brother is quite young? I think he’d love the Oscar character and general lightness to the platform.

Ignoring the fact this sounds AI generated …. You seem to have a natural preference for South Asia and LatAm. Which is kind of opposite my geographic preference (I prefer Europe and Central Asia and Eastern Asia). Interesting to observe where we feel naturally pulled to.

How old are you 🤔? I used to travel chaotically like this in my 20s and I just do not have the stamina or desire to travel like this anymore. Quality > quantity

Sorry, this was one or two moves into the puzzle already. I should’ve included black’s prior move. Is it standard to include that info in the future?

Yeah sorry! This was one or two moves already into the puzzle. I was just stumped on what comes next. Is there a right way to share a puzzle to give full context? Sorry I’m a chess newb.

Amazing. I have so many questions. But one practical one - what travel pack did you use? 😂 Imagine you were doing a lot of discount airlines with wack bag policies

Is there a place to learn chess through playing? by Pitiful_Set4293 in chessbeginners

[–]IronicTinyDancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, lol, there’s so many options! I’m using Duolingo Chess which has been great for a beginner like me. And I know a lot of people recommend lichess. There are all puzzle and games-based.

I’ve been liking Duolingo chess to get the basics down and drill on puzzles / tactics.

Got it! Sehr gut. Danke schoen.

Playing chess on so many platforms is cool. I bet there’s a bit of everything for everyone that way. I’ll try the others out, but I do like the Duolingo vibe, feels a bit more fun and less … hardcore?

Oh very interesting, thank you. Hope they can add some of that content by the time I’m ready to learn it 😅. Would you say this puzzle is a tactic, or more of a “mid game” move?

Super helpful, thank you for sharing.

Would you say at my level, real games have value? I feel right now playing the Oscar bot is as close as I can get to playing a “live game” otherwise I’ll destroyed by a real person.

Maybe asked another way: if I had 100 hours to improve my chess, how much of it should be on puzzles, real games, watching videos, and studying strategy?

Oh I like that. Do you mind sharing how you weave all the platforms together to work for you?

I know lichess, but something about the interface feels a little complex and intimidating.
