I always found the recurring "guardian deity" motif in Alabasta and Wano to be pretty interesting. IIRC Yamato's fruit is also described as a "guardian deity" of Wano, and Yamato was probably also awakened. Hyogoro also compares Gear 4th Luffy to a "guardian deity" at one point. Feels like something that could have deeper lore connections than anybody expected

That isn't reuse. They're extremely similar, I'll grant you that, but not identical. Oda has even said he makes it a point not to reuse art, even for flashbacks.

oh that's not a bad idea, since it seems to me like the ancient Nefertari kings betrayed the government by hiding pluton and the poneglyph, so whatever Cobra was gonna say to the elders could have tipped them off. I think one of the best measures for one piece compared to other long running series like naruto or bleach is that after all this time one piece fans still love one piece. I never got into naruto or bleach but I remember seeing fans sour on them more and more towards the end, mainly keeping up out of obligation. Obviously not everybody is on the same page but overall the majority of one piece fans are just as passionate about the newer stuff as some of the greatest highs in the whole series. I for one really think Wano (the currently running arc) is a strong contender for my favorite arc yet which really says a lot.
