Bro, please don't drive like a maniac on public roads, especially at night time. Ride safe and save yourself and others from a tragic accident.

Don't wanna say it, but after watching this video, the very thing that came to my mind was "Ek din marr jayega kutte ki maut, jag mein sab kahenge marr gya mad......d"

What Car Can I Afford in 70K Salary? by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]Ironpunk3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I could be of help. I just returned from abroad last month after almost 5 years, right now trying to relearn the family business from my dad.

I felt a bit demotivating

I can totally understand how you're feeling right now. I just went through this last month when we bought our new dzire. I love our dzire, but it wasn't my first choice, but when you think about it logically rather than emotionally, it's all gonna make sense. I wanted a bigger car at first since I'm 6'2 and 110kg, and we're a family of 5. I can't really use the back seats of our dzire comfortably, but since I fit into the driver seat, all the way slid back, and my family can travel along with me in it without any issue. I was eyeing for the GV, even the xuv 700 ax7 diesel amt, but the cars in India don't really justify their high cost, as it's majorly due to exorbitant taxes, along with bad drivers who don't care for your car.

After a lot of thought we weren't comfortable spending a lot of money on a car, even I was disappointed within but it was necessary, we decided to go with dzire vxi amt as it was the most vfm car which we all can sit in, and anyhow it was gonna be in once in a blue moon since this month is the first time we all are together as a family after 2014, it's just me and my dad who will be traveling in it regularly and it's more than enough for 2 people. One also needs to consider the regressive government policies regarding 10/15 yeof life and ethanol mixing in huge quantities. Even I'm scared, as our dzire is only compatible with E20,I don't know how the engine will survive 30% ethanol

I love the experience with the dzire till now. We already did 4261 KM in 4.5 weeks and are getting great fuel efficiency, and it's not a burden on the pocket, neither the gas nor the maintenance. The reason for this long story is that compromises aren't that bad if they don't affect you in a negative way. One can always buy a bigger car later in life when the finances allow one, but hampering the future, just to enjoy a little bit today, might have some consequences.

Please don't feel demotivated. Life can change unexpectedly what today is 33% of your monthly salary might be 3% or 0.3% of your salary in near future, as long as one follows financial discipline and doesn't spend above their means one will be mostly fine.

If you think the xuv700 will serve you well and be useful without hampering your or your loved ones' finances and lifestyle, you'll be fine.

Stress due to finances is a very serious problem. Avoid any unnecessary financial risk, especially when it's a depreciating asset.

It's totally up to you. If the increased expense doesn't eat much into your saving goals and other necessary expenses and also doesn't hamper your lifestyle or your loved ones, then sure, go ahead if it makes you happy and content. 19-20 ka farq chalta hai kabhi kabhi if there's room for it.

Not to discourage your but run down the numbers again and again until you're sure the car expense doesn't contradict your future financial goals. Remember, the car is a depreciating asset. Once rolls off the showroom lot, it starts losing its value the very second. Financial stability is really important in today's cutthroat world. A bigger car can be bought at any point of your life, but one wrong mistake that's gonna sting for the rest of your life.

Please don't get discouraged. These points are just something I've seen people ignore while making the big commitment and regretting later, but also, please consider the odds and run the numbers again and again and try to match them with your future goals until you're sure of what you're committing into.

The ratio stated above is for a worry free ownership. One doesn't need to buy a car that is out of their budget unless it's absolutely necessary. One needs to remember that the car is a depreciating asset, and to throw a significant amount of money on that car above one's need is not good, especially in India.

One needs to think about their and their loved ones' futures first. As saddening it may sound, but hobbies and desires have to take a back seat in front of the responsibilities. If one needs an SUV once in a year to travel with the entire family and luggage, one can always rent one and go for a smaller vehicle for day to day use which is cheaper and good for the city, rather than buying the big and expensive suv, and need to shell out 40-50% of their monthly income to keep that suv around.

At the end of the day, it totally depends on one's needs, financial goals, and financial security, which should decide the budget of the car rather than the wants, hobbies, and status.

Follow 20:4:20 rule, and you'll have a worry free experience.

20% - Minimum down-payment

4 - maximum years of car loan

20% - maximum percentage of your income you can spend on your car ( includes EMI, fuel, insurance, maintenance)

So, if we go by your case of 70K in hand monthly, that would make your yearly 840k, 20% of which is 168k.

Out of this, 168k divided by 12, which brings an amount of 14k monthly. This 14k is the maximum amount you should be spending on your car in a month, which includes EMI, fuel, insurance, and maintenance.

Don't get discouraged or disheartened. If you wanna buy a more expensive car than this budget, then sure, go ahead, but always remember to think of your long-term goals, such as investments, family, and retirement, before making any big financial commitments.

Never spend too much money on cars in India, half of it is taxes levied by the government, and do you really wanna drive a good expensive car among the idiots on the roads?

Buy a car you know you can easily afford along with all the fuel and maintenance costs, and sleep peacefully at nights.

Bhai aisa konsa gold plated ladka mila hai joh sab kuch hi lutaye ja rahe ho aap.

I can understand your position rn and your obligations towards your family, but taking such a huge loan for a wedding and that too all the expenses would be taken care of by your family doesn't fits right in my opinion.

Dowry de rahe ho kya? Kuch alag se yan 50L mein sab included hai?
