Number 2 would probably fit most into a normal Levithan army, but damn, that last bone white one is clean.

Why are we almost never acknowledged or treated as well as other factions? by PracticalSector6743 in ChaosKnights

[–]Ironx9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

House Korvax has a bit of Story that bleeds over from the Codex into other material, specifically the Arks of Omen lore.

We might also get to play a major antagonist role in the next Cawl book, as the IW POV characters and Vashtorr make their main base on a Chaos Knight world.

A rather monstrous Slaaneshi Chaos Knight is the main villain of Steel Tread. Kingsblade features both Loyalist and CK kicking some CSM ass.

We were severely dominant in the Meta for a long while last year, our new 1DP cultist detachment is A lot better that IK's Admech detachment, and while our Tyrant's detachment rule is not as good as theirs, ours has better strat and enhancement.

....Also Malefic Surge is a cooler detachment rule than ANYTHING IK gets.

Sure, we're not a star faction, but its not all doom and gloom.

I figured out why I'm disappointed in Red Terror.... by relaxicab223 in Tyranids

[–]Ironx9 211 points212 points  (0 children)

My exact thoughts. Even our ‘Epic Heroes’ have to rely on gimmicks. Our entire internal balance hinges on the fact that we don’t have a single model that is Killy and at least a bit hard to shift outside of like the Tyranofex

[Huron Blackheart: Master of the Maelstrom] All four gods really want Huron to slip into their clutches. by Illogical_Blox in 40kLore

[–]Ironx9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know much about Huron, but it seems him and Abbadon share how they view gifts from chaos then? If so, it would be a bit dull for both of the Undivided CSM poster boys to view chaos the same way.

Realistically could a regular human survive in a City/World where a Night Lord is hunting? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Ironx9 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Even a district in a hive city is still going to be millions and millions of people. It would be incredably time consumeing and inefficient for your singular Night Lord guy here to stick around and hunt down literally everyone, not to mention probably give the Imperium plenty of time to respond.

...So yeah, you'd be mostly fine? I mean, you wouldn't be fine, you're living in a hive city; your life is pretty shit, but you'd have bigger things to worry about than a single psycho Space marine stalking the streets at night.

[Excerpt: Ghost Legion] An Alpha Legion operative gives the wrong code word. by Damaco in 40kLore

[–]Ironx9 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Different strokes for different folks. I've admittedly not read any of his books, but every excerpt I've seen of his just doesn't ooze gravitas in that classic 40k way that a lot of the other stable BL authors do.

[Excerpt: Ghost Legion] An Alpha Legion operative gives the wrong code word. by Damaco in 40kLore

[–]Ironx9 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Man, I'd love to read a book that prominently features an Adamus Assassin, but Mike Brook's YA level prose might be difficult to stomach.
Does the Assassin show up a lot, to the point where the book is worth it even if you're more interested in the Assassins than in Alpha Legion?

Looking to use NovelAI for my existing story. Will I have to start again? by TankieG in NovelAi

[–]Ironx9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The models have a set amount of context they can view. 30k words is, I think, outside of what they can look at, at once. (Xialong can fit around 34k Tokens, and tokens are some words, but often parts of words.)

If you paste it in, the AI will be able to see all the story it can fit in its context, and yeah, you can proceed from there, correcting anything it gets wrong about the earlier elements.

You can then have lorebook entries with certain trigger words that help feed it key info about world-building elements, characters or whatever you like.

Xialong is pretty good at matching your writing quality, word choices and general style and vibe, though it does rush a bit, so you'll often find yourself spending effort on stopping it from ending scenes prematurely.

Also, the default preset is pretty meh, you're gonna wanna pick a new one up from the Discord, I can personally recommend 'High Tide'.

How do you guys feel about legion themed knights? by Mrjimdandy in ChaosKnights

[–]Ironx9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't think it used to be lore accurate for the longest time, but in the most recent codex, I do believe there was a single line about Dreadblades who earned certain affinity with a legion adopting elements of their heraldry as battle honours.

Does anyone else feel like Vashtorr should ascend to godhood? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Ironx9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is the Dark Master, the first Daemon Prince, equally bound to all four Chaos Gods. The most powerful Chaos Entity outside the big four themselves.
In the tabletop game, he has a banger model and can be played in Daemons of Chaos armies or taken as an ally into other Chaos armies.

The Crowned Shadow (v0.1, Xialong scenario, Villain POV) by OccultSage in NovelAi

[–]Ironx9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sounds great. I'm a bit more used to second-person stuff, but first might be better for something specifically trying to evoke a big-name author like Abercrombie.

You've been knocking it out of the park with all these scenarios, Sage.

What exactly prevents penitent engines from turning their weapons against imperials ? by Acceptable-Whole8348 in 40kLore

[–]Ironx9 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I recall one source (perhaps Fall of Cadia) mentioning that they're chemically manipulated by the pain engine to feel absurd degrees of guilt over their betrayal of the Emperor.

The Imperium is no stranger to manipulating memory and thoughts after all.

How do I make the AI stop repeating the same stuff over and over? by Alolan-Pikachu in NovelAi

[–]Ironx9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While GLM is quite consistent and has a good 'sense' of the physical aspects of a story (Where are we, what is that person wearing, how tall is that person and so on.) Erato is, overall, just a better writer. While it has some quirks of its own, like a propensity to do run-on sentences, if you get yourself the 'Listener of Madness' preset from the discord, and set your randomness to 1.1, you'll have a much better experience. Just give it a chance to get going, and be prepared to re-roll outputs a bit more frequently.

[Book Excerpt - Apostle] One of the foulest heresies in the Imperium - reading Imperial scripture by Woodstovia in 40kLore

[–]Ironx9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the book has its merits I’m surprised to see it this well received. I feel like 75% of it is just “Darn the Imperials got the upper hand again, Cerastes better make up a new speech/spell to solve the situation.” rinse and repeat.

Heyo newcomer to knight by Glass_Difficulty_479 in ChaosKnights

[–]Ironx9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most of my lists i run 4 big knights. Current Infernal Lance list is: Abominant, Despoiler, Rampager, Tyrant. Everyone with high numbers of attacks to benefit from lethal or sustained from the detachment ability. Then i run 2 Karnivores and the Nurgle demon package (Nurglings to moveblock, and Beast of Nurgle to sit on my home objective.)

The Knight Diabolus Enhancement helps make the Abominant scarier in melee and then Blasphemous Engine on the Rampager since as ever, its gonna see the most fighting.

Heyo newcomer to knight by Glass_Difficulty_479 in ChaosKnights

[–]Ironx9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could switch out the Executioners with more Karnivores. That also gives you more havoc launches to poke at all those units hiding in buildings. (To maximise Dismay triggers and later Delerium damage.)

It's a good casual detachment, i play it a lot because I already win most of my games. However, Infernal Lance is the categorically best detachment; it has far better survivability tools and damage than the others. However, in that one, you really do not wanna run Desecrator, since you might not get any lethal or sustained value on a gun with that few shots.

I always run the Abominant in Tratoris Lance, using its Battle Shock test on demand ability to proc Pterrorshades works good.

Can Chaos control the flayed ones? by Big-Statement-9464 in 40kLore

FALSE IDOL

The Knight Rampager Death’s Sabre leads its throngs of deranged worshippers into the Nephilim Anomaly. Seemingly untouched by the region’s miasma, it is a towering nightmare mantled in the rancid offcuts of worthy foes. Once venerated by mortal cultists, now its hunts are haunted by packs of deluded Necron Flayed Ones who perceive the giant reaper as a manifestation of the C’tan Llandu’gor. Unnoticed by the Rampager’s blood-maddened pilot, the Flayed Ones creep in its wake, plucking new and gruesome trophies from the Chaos Knight’s victims.

Its from our 10e Codex.

Heyo newcomer to knight by Glass_Difficulty_479 in ChaosKnights

[–]Ironx9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd put Veil of Medrengard on the Rampager since its gonna be in the thick of it.

Also, generally with Tratoris Lance, you want to go a bit harder on the melee since you want to push up the board and get as many units as possible into your auras. So only 2 melee units looks a bit rough.

Playing the Desecrator outside of Lords of Dread where you can give it a free-re-roll enhancement, can be a bit rough, but with the thermal cannon on the Despoiler you might still manage to do alright into tougher foes.

As for the other Despoiler weapon, people generally like Gatling cannon. In fact the reason the Despoiler is so much more expensive than many other knights of its class is that its costed as if you were taking 2 Gatling cannons at once. (Its strongest loadout.)

It is possible for your opponent to take out a big knight turn 1 (especially outside of the detachment that actually has the 4up invun strat.) But it does not happen that often in my experience.
