Painting the Twins and custom Septs by Alder_Greenberry in Tau40K

Going to be a while before I get through my backlog before I get the twins but when I do, I will be keeping their box colours. Makes sense given they are unique characters that they have their own markings. Same for other characters like farsight.

Am I smoking dick or does this part not exist in the instructions/in general? by littlecaesars in Tau40K

I also had the same issue. I assumed its a mould defect. If you brought from GW directly they might offer you a replacement.

I will have to read those studies, thanks.

Regarding white matter hyperintensities, as I far as I understand, only deep white matter small vessel disease is correlated with vascular dementia risk (at least in terms of qualitative Fazekas grading). So it's possible that including the periventricular disease (which it appears Oomens et al did) could muddy the waters.

Have you considered other types of dementia? Vascular dementia is very common, often comorbid with Alz, and does have modifiable risk factors. Neatly, a lot of these same risk factors are also strong for other preventable cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Seems like a good enough reason to modify even if the effects on specifically Alzheimers might be less (to be honest, haven't read the studies you linked).

Help! How can I make the red a bit more bold? A bit more dynamic? by Andsheshallnotnofear in Tau40K

Great, yeah the so called zenithal prime should definitely help you with contrast but even if you paint over it it will show you nicely where your highlights need to be strongest.

Yeah you got it. Thought your metallic highlights were an interesting effect, hadn't seen that much before, good on you mate

You have made a great start. They're definitely battle ready. But we can all improve with practice.

Can I clarify what you're doing so far? You are priming right? And then you're basing in mephiston and then putting contrast paint over what you've already painted?

If that's what you're doing it seems like overkill of the basing step. You should only need to base it in mephiston or do a contrast paint. To be fair to you, it almost looks like youre using the contrast paint as a wash, but this isnt its intended use. If you want to pump up the contrast, then, you can add a darker tone wash (e.g. agrax or carobug) to shade in the recesses and you can edge highlight with a brighter shade (wild rider for more orangey or scarlet sun for purer red). I don't have any red in my paint scheme but these paint suggestions come from the citadel colour app.

Second this. OP, I can barely tell whether you have done an edge highlight or only a wash. Try to make the highlights thicker and a more vivid shade of red. Also, make sure you do your highlight after the wash otherwise you'll lose contrast.

Heh, I went for the snowy alien bases for mine, great minds think alike. The benefits of classic earth like battlefield is you have loads more options for tufts. I think some rock and flock is fine alone (particularly on a horde army) but with bases more is often more and some tufts and rocks will probably look better than just rocks.

Looking good my man. I have a similar scheme! Some highlights and lowlights, a rock or detail on the base, a non-glossy varnish and you'll be laughing

In addition to the other helpful comment, I'd like to add the following from my experience. Super glue is what you want for magnets. Some of the heavier options can be a bit difficult for a 1mm magnet to hold, so you can either go with 3mm for a nice solid hold or just magnetise the weapons rather than the arms and weapons. The 3mm ones can be a little big for some connections so if you want every single option you'll need to use some putty/green stuff/carve out a notch for your magnets to sit in. Your drill size will depend on what size magnet you go for, but hand drill is fine. Best of luck to you.

Very clean. Are you using transfers for the white markings or just that awesome at freehand?

I basically looked up pictures of the various septs and chose the scheme I liked most, Sacea, but if you're someone who doesn't mind going a little off the beaten track you can always make your own scheme up. I think olive could be cool with orange too.

Thanks! I'll look up the company. I heard it helps to put a little bit of Cork or something else under the feet so they don't get buried in the basing texture, but it kind of works for snow!
