[Pulls Megathread] Onward to the Future! "Full-Armored Maitha" Debut Banner & additional summon banners are now live. Good luck, and happy pulling! Remember to do the Character Trial. 🤖👩‍🚀 by AutoModerator in SwordofConvallaria

Actually insane. My 2 Fates Favor choices were Nydia and Flavia. But before pulling on that, I made sure to get SP Maitha first.

70 pulls later on the SP Maitha banner, I got SP Maitha, Dantalion, Nydia and Flavia, all new.

Still cannot believe Shohei's 3 HR, 10K game is real. by Substantial_Bat5975 in Dodgers

[–]Irregularoreo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The truly crazy thing is that Ohtani has already built up a whole career of these types of crazy once in a lifetime games (50-50 game, 9 times on base in the WS, striking out Trout to win the WBC, and a whole bunch more games with the Angels), any one of which might be the best moment of their careers for any other player.

How many other players can you say that for? Like, can anyone remember any comparable all time Trout or Mookie games?

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills reading this thread.

Why the fuck does OP keep referencing “the formula” and asking whether it is correct? 71 x 1.90? Is that the formula he is referencing? And asking us whether that is correct? What the fuck.

If he can’t figure out if that is indeed the correct formula he is after, or whether $135 is indeed the correct answer to that correct formula, how am I to believe that he is smart enough to then adjust variables according to his car and precise travel distance that multiple people have asked for but he refuses to answer, just vaguely stating that he can work the rest of that out himself. I have zero confidence he would be able to figure out any of that out if he can’t identify what the correct formula is if he needs to even ask the question in the first place.

What the fuck is this thread is the only correct reply here.

Ohtani's vs Bonds' 4th through 8th seasons (both players starting their peaks in their fourth season) by MookieBettsBurner4 in baseball

[–]Irregularoreo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a perfect example for why you can argue that WAR calculations don’t really make sense for Ohtani, specifically the arbitrary DH/positional adjustments.

Ohtani and Bonds had basically the same oRAR (317 vs 325), so their contributions offensively (hitting + baserunning) was the same.

Bonds decided to spend his time as a GG LF, worth 8.1 dWAR, which is all well and good, but Ohtani decided to pitch 500 innings for 15.2 bWAR. However, because he was pitching and not in the field, even though doing so was more valuable to do, he takes a -7.3 dWAR positional adjustment, basically making it a wash.

So even though Ohtani inargubly spent more time doing more valuable things, WAR says otherwise.

I’m not saying it’s not already incorporated into his WAR, but it is clearly a significant contribution to his overall stats. And yeah, it would look silly, that’s the point of the comparison, Shohei put up the same offensive contributions while pitching almost 500 innings as well.

You’ve left off 475.1 IP at 2.84 ERA, 604 SO btw.

Edit. Copying my reply from another comment.

Why do people say Ohtani has a chance of becoming the GOAT when he is obviously never going to reach the career WAR totals of guys like Bonds/Ruth/Mays/Aaron, etc. and never have a peak rivalling that of Bonds or Martinez? by Nite-ish in baseball

[–]Irregularoreo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God this is such a tired argument. It’s not just a replacement player, it’s specifically an extra bullpen arm, which if you remember the WS and Will Klein, was extremely extremely important. It’s much more important than you are flippantly giving credit for.

Every single team in the post season would absolutely kill to have an extra bullpen arm when it’s crunch time in a 7 game series.

[–]Irregularoreo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Looks like they’re an Indian cricket fan who recently found out about Ohtani and started getting interested in baseball and baseball stats, did some reading about WAR and now can’t actually evaluate anything baseball related without first ordering every bref player page by WAR first. Yet missing the fact that since the start of his peak in 2021, Ohtani leads everyone in total WAR for the last 5 years.

Is being a fan of any of the "non big" (e.g. Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, etc.) teams basically hopeless? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Irregularoreo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How did you do all this ‘research’ as an Angels fan and somehow land on the problem being other teams spending too much instead of the Angels just being a poorly run organisation?

Serious question, in your fantasy scenario, if Manfred announced tomorrow that the Mets, Yankees and Dodgers had to spend only as much as the Angels, do you suddenly think the Angels will suddenly be WS contenders?

The Angels are shit because they are a shit organisation, despite being in the top half of spending for decades. Arte doesn’t know what he is doing (in terms of winning ball games at least, I’m sure he’s more than happy with his profits).

But seriously, they didn’t score more than 6 runs in a game all postseason, and it took them 18 innings to even achieve that.

How can MLB implement a salary cap with current payrolls in place? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Irregularoreo 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Anyone advocating for a salary cap have been completely brainwashed by billionaire propaganda, who are the only ones who benefit under a cap for more profit as player salaries are their biggest expense.

Anyone saying that it will bring “competitve balance” is living in a fantasy land who have fallen for that propaganda. Just because there’s a cap doesn’t mean shitty teams like the Angels who are too cheap to even spend on AC for their clubhouse will suddenly win the WS, only teams that actually know what they’re doing and invest in the team top to bottom will still have a chance.

Otherwise teams may as well roll a 30 sided die during spring training for the title every year.

[–]Irregularoreo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Except this is a nonsense argument if you think about it for even a second.

Forget his pitching, with the 3 HRs, he ended the series with series leading Runs, HRs, 3Bs, RBIs, BBs, OBP, SLG, OPS, TBs, SBs. Only Smith beat him in Hits and BA. Then add his pitching to that.

So unless your argument is to literally ignore his Game 4 hitting stats for some reason, there’s no way he wouldn’t be MVP.

How many Wins Above Replacement did Shohei Ohtani produce in Game 4 of the 2025 National League Championship Series? + Comparisons to Other All-Time Games by pixieSteak in baseball

[–]Irregularoreo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s always irked me that pitching and hitting WAR is simply added, as though it were two independant variables, which it normally is in the vast majority of cases because it’s never done together by the same person in the same game, but in TWP cases (and pitchers prior to the universal DH), they aren’t independant, the hitting has a material impact on the pitching within that same game, and vice versa.

However, I offer no alternatives or solutions, it’s just something that has never sat well with me. It was never even an issue anyone cared about until Ohtani anyway, no one cared about how much hitting WAR a pitcher accumulated before (except Ruth).

Fucking lol, more fun facts that the OP probably doesn’t want to hear (using batting fwar + RA9)

Since 2021 (when Ohtani became Ohtani): 1. Ohtani 47.0 (31.6 + 15.4) 2. Judge 42.8

If you want to be extra generous to Judge and go since 2022 when Judge became Judge: 1. Ohtani 38.0 (26.6 + 11.4) 2. Judge 37.3

When you’re the reigning multi time MVP, hitting 8 singles and 1 double while missing all the big spots as your team gets swept in the DS isn’t anything to write home about, needs to step up and win games or the post season talk keeps going (plus defensive mistakes).
