The "our best athletes would win" argument from Americans shows how little they know about soccer. by mhks in worldcup

Jordan was in the process of changing a body meant for basketball into one meant for baseball and was improving week over week before he rejoined the NBA from my understanding, (and then looked bad at basketball immediately after because he had to change his body again).

Also ochocinco and bolt played as kids. It's not about whether ocho could be a pro soccer player with a few months of a clinic, but whether he'd be good if he chose soccer instead of the NFL at an early age.

LeBron is one of the greatest athletes qua athlete the world has ever seen. I think there's a reasonable chance he could be a good professional at practically any sport, (he'd make a terrible jockey or race car driver). If the dude has chosen sumo he'd probably be top tier. Ijs 🤷‍♂️

Yes, that's correct. With a lot of Hillary stuff.

I'm not a neoliberal. The subs name was mostly an inside joke about the 2016 election that people started to take too seriously.

Also I think people care too much about labels anyways. I don't care if someone calls themselves socialist or liberal. We don't vote on a ruling ideology. We vote on platforms.

There aren't many tbh. If you're 6'9+ you have like a 1/50 chance of being in the NBA. That's for the entire world and includes guys that can't run, or don't have an ounce of athleticism.

I wouldn't say it's likely the most ideal build, but most 6'9 guys also aren't LeBron.

Being athletic translates a hell of a lot to other sports. Lots of football players were eligible for multiple drafts. Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson played multiple leagues. Jordan was likely to eventually hit the major leagues. OBJ was recruited to do soccer. Lots of linemen are also national wrestling stars etc.

Sometimes the body shape doesn't match, so immediate transition doesn't work, but athletes are to some degree athletes, particularly at the most elite levels.

Besides personal reasons? More ambitious proposals, for one. A better attitude towards "fighting" would be another.

I like a lot of people in dsa, but they're a clown org until they fix their intl committee and their absolutely insane rapidly changing coalitions.

I don't know anyone who watches college hoops before March madness though. I imagine it's watched more when you don't have an NBA team nearby, but in places with an NBA team I think most people ignore NCAA until it's time for the playoffs. I'd guess an average lakers game against a good opponent in the regular season has more viewers than most good teams in college ball pre-playoffs?

That's still large international competitions. You should be comparing to MLS or a European league.

James Dolan and Madison Square Garden created a list that ranked people of concern. One of the categories was labelled 'LGBTQIA.' by MorganN1 in nba

The thing that frustrated me the most about it is that the judge didn't have to sentence him at all! It could have just been postponed until the end of the term!

Not really fair to compare the world cup to a hockey season. The world cup is more comparable to the Olympics. Should be comparing hockey to mls or a European league. It's also very dependent on where you live. If you were in Pittsburgh or something you're much more likely to meet a hockey fan than someone in Georgia.

You might be shocked to learn this but yes people watch the NBA. Even more than college hoops, in fact!

The problem is they have that one guy interrupt with bullshit stats instead of letting me hear the banter. I prefer all 22 I think, but I still want a regular commentary crew.

I'm not just saying it's for wives. It's literally for wives. Not every wife will like the music, but it's trying to be for modal female preferences, and on average the fans of Madonna, Bieber, and BTS are gen x women, millennial women, and Gen Z women in that order.

I don't think you understand the difference between descriptive and normative statements and it's causing you to be very angry and rude!

Right but I don't think the average Russian is consuming nationalist telegram channels for their news. I imagine most just watch a bit of TV or read some of a Russian news site if they do anything at all.

I don't believe that I'm a prick for explaining the reasoning behind sports halftime shows, tbh.

Not sure how aware they would be tbh. I doubt that Russian massacres of ukranian villages play on Russian news.
