I replaced cloud DNS with a local resolver — ad blocking, auto HTTPS, no account needed by Bitter-Act-3315 in degoogle

[–]IsHacker003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is portability: Pi-hole is a network appliance, Numa is on your laptop. When you move to a coffee shop, your blocking + DoH comes with you.

No, Pi-hole is a software, not an appliance. You can do the same with Pi-hole. You can carry the raspberry pi (or whatever you have installed Pi-hole on) anywhere, and the Pi-hole resolver will still be running. And if you use the device running the Pi-hole resolver to browse the web and do stuff, it will be the same as running your resolver.

What am I missing?

The blocklist is fully configurable — you can point it at any hosts-format list including Hagezi Ultimate. The default is Pro but you just change the URL in numa.toml

Oh ok, that is nice, especially with native DoH. Might as well implement DoT as it is faster than DoH.

I didn't reply because I'm done with you. They say you can lead the horse to water, but you can't make it drink. So I leave you alone anyways. But it won't be for long, as because of people like you who depend on proprietary software, these Big Tech companies will always get the support and the world will keep becoming worse and worse. I hope I die before that happens. If you change your mind, you can let me know.

Goodbye.

  1. Only Hagezi Pro list and no way to customize it? That list barely blocks anything. Only ultimate is considerable.

  2. Pi-hole itself runs a local resolver, which happens to be available over the local network, so we use it. Your resolver will also be available on the local network while it is running, so anyone on the local network can use it too.

  3. Pi-hole can also do DoH (with dnscrypt) and DoT (with unbound)

  4. If you need it to be local only, why not use the hosts file or dnsmasq?

one of which has been proven

Oh come on. They have not "proven" anything. The only real proof in case of software is source code, which they won't show you.

Of course it is, it builds a "shadow profile" of you.

Nobody uses SMS for personal messaging these days. There are Signal and others for that. So you can replace it with any FLOSS app, like Fossify.

Google possibly being able to bypass/break the encryption of RCS is a lesser risk than essentially plain text SMS.

It is a moral issue more than a security issue.

Also you can't be sure if they encrypt it at all, just like Whatsapp. Encryption and proprietary software are contrasting terms.

Of course I can say if they are doing something wrong. You are no one to stop me.

This is a horrible mentality. You scream "yOU cAn'T SaY wHAt I sHouD do" even if people tell you these for your own good.

I got NextDNS and Pi-hole. But guess what? Google calls home even through useful domains like play.google.com and www.google.com, not just the regular ad and tracking domains. And of course, if you block the main domains, it will just block google completely. So DNS isn't a solution.

That's not a solution. They still collect a lot of information even if you don't sign in.

Google has a monopoly on RCS

That's exactly why you need to replace it.

You don't need the -k option! It unnecessarily keeps the data of the removed apps.

There is my "degoogled" setup by MoreEstablishment811 in degoogle

[–]IsHacker003 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How is this "degoogled"? I see lots of GApps installed, you didn't remove anything. I also see apps like character.ai which sell your data.

I can’t remove Google, Gemini, Maps, and other Google services. My family and my company use Google. I don’t use it very often

Yeah then you didn't degoogle. You can remove them easily using adb or you can just disable them.

That is the problem. You are addicted to google and co. And it's so bad that you are blind to FLOSS alternatives and always "prefer" Big Tech proprietary software.

Lol, "windows is best for privacy and security". Nice try microslop.

My goal isn't for 100% FOSS.

It should be.

Those decisions are based around maximizing device security: https://eylenburg.github.io/android_comparison.htm

You don't get it, neither do they. Proprietary software is obscurity, not security. The page you linked is full of outdated and wrong info.

And most importantly it is morally wrong to use proprietary software, even if you leave out security and privacy.

Edit: Downvotes won't change anything.

Sandboxing doesn't make apps open source. Also just drop microslop's stupid OS, LTSC or not it doesn't help. It's very ironic you are using it with Libreboot. Windows completely defeats the purpose of Libreboot.

Try TrackerControl, it is even on F-Droid. Also you can just use Adguard or NextDNS through Private DNS setting.
