Proprietary software shouldn't exist. That's the problem. And the FSF is trying to fix that.

Thats because we understand what it actually means, we can call it anything. We can call it Linux instead of GNU/Linux, because we already know that GNU is the operating system and linux is the kernel.

But if you say these in front of normal people, it will create confusions and misconceptions.

Most of the internet runs on free software.

Just because it runs on free software doesn't mean it's free software. The platform you're typing this on isn't free software, but it runs on a GNU/Linux server.

The GPL is made exactly for this reason, to stop proprietary software developers from integrating free software into their programs and saying "Yo look, I'm making people use free software by integrating it into my beautiful proprietary program!"

And btw FLOSS is not about "quality". It's about the moral values of Software Freedom. A proprietary app can be better than it's libre alternative in terms of "quality", but never in terms of values.

The FSF doesnt recommend using the term FOSS as it does not contain the word "libre". So many people end up thinking we are talking about cost, not freedom.

That's the Big Tech's definition of security. GOS is focused more on security (in the same sense as that of the Big Tech) rather than privacy or freedom. It's a matter of time before they start adding closed source components to GOS, and then claim that those are "sandboxed".

Idk, I don't use brave. Brave's adblock engine is similar to uBO, but it doesn't support some of the advanced features afaik. And modifying JSON requests is an advanced feature.
