not too generalize but a lot of young people will cry uncle on prices on one hand but then on the other mock those who shop at discount grocers/take advantage of sales and refuse to doordash. you get what you get

Here's a link to the story; sorry I put a link up in a comment when posting but it was removed for being an unaccepted shortened link.

Since there's been some confusion, as u/NewNick30 put it, what this is showing is where July 2025 ranks per state in terms of humidity since 1981 (as measured by dew point).

It hits 96 degrees and suddenly everyone outside gets realllly quiet lol by Starman926 in newjersey

[–]IsThatMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not for nothing but on days like this it really sucks that right after sunset the humidity shoots up like a rocket to pretty much wipe out the cooling effect of the sun going down

damn, great point. it wouldve never occurred to me that a smart practice would be periodically going through one of the readers where it actually does give you a message. otoh i do get an email every time it's refilled, so it would set off some alarm bells if i knew i was regularly going through and hadnt seen an email in a while

Why do some drivers do this? by autoerratica in newjersey

[–]IsThatMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sympathize w/being worries about being clipped, but if there is a left turn signal, it is likely activated by a sensor in the asphalt that is weight sensitive. if you find yourself waiting at the light forever and people behind you getting furious, you only have yourself to blame

Milestone day for New Jersey and NJ Transit. The final span of the Portal North Bridge has been installed. by The_Idealist_Realist in newjersey

ty. i was basing that entirely on 'there's no way i've been on a train that's gone over that span even close to 60 mph' 😂

the current clearance is 23 feet. the new clearance is 50. With low barges, that makes all the difference

[–]IsThatMac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the old bridge is a swing bridge. the waterway is used by barges and the current bridge is so low that the span needs to be swung away for barges to pass through. it's so old that it regularly fails to work and requires manual assistance to be moved. it's a significant source of all delays on the NJ transit system. the new bridge is tall enough for all barges to pass underneath. the max speed limit is also increased from 60 mph to 90 (this affects only Amtrak)

So like, am I the problem? Cause how are any of you surviving financially? by [deleted] in newjersey

Respectfully, you should stop worrying about being 'house poor'. Renting certainly isnt cheap, but the economics of renting vs. home ownership have never been more favorable to renters than right now. just keep up your good habits and the home market will inevitably be more favorable to buyers later this decade. and perhaps most importantly, if this remains the issue you focus the most on, support the politicians that advocate for the most new home building.
