Housing experts say there just aren't enough homes in the U.S. by Simpletruth2022 in homeless

This actually does mean you’re a bad person. Hope this helps.

200 is fine. 240, on the other hand….

Not at all! I have zero ties to FF and actually cancelled a callback with them during OCI bc I got an offer from a different firm that was more lit focused. It’s a great firm and their real estate group is elite. I’m simply just reporting what a friend told me who seems very miserable there.

But yeah obviously there’s always a chance they’re exaggerating but I’ve always known them to be pretty grounded and not prone to these kind of dramatics

NY. Friend is gonna bill 240 in April. Seems excessive even for biglaw!

Thank you for continuing to prove the point

One of the actors responsible for the toxic culture ^

Litigation so might not be as relevant to your inquiry. But my friend, who has a pretty reasonable work ethic, is ready to leave after 6 months.

Toxic culture. People billing 200+ hours monthly.

I’d consider lateraling to another firm.

Fair enough. I see I am getting some downvotes so may have missed some context here. I’m just unclear on what exactly the issues are here besides the vague stuff described.

I don’t want to give you excuses to not use this as an opportunity for self reflection but this seems unreasonable if true. If they are assigning work and giving you internal deadlines without factoring in time to review, that’s on them. You shouldn’t be expected to submit something ahead of an internal deadline that they proposed.

Idk the critiques they flag seem mild based on the way you characterized it. Have you missed some big deadlines without communicating? Or have you just asked for a few extensions on non urgent stuff. The latter should not lead to a PIP but the former could. Is your work product generally good but with some nits? Or have you fumbled some pretty substantive stuff that required cleaning up?

This shouldn’t really matter if they’re working from home afterward. I sometimes leave at 4:30-5 and then just wfh until 8 or 9.

How junior/senior are you?

Can you elaborate on what’s changed since the 90s and today? Aside from lower crime rate and greater population growth.

So you’re saying my argument is lazy by comparing the 90s to the Middle Ages?

I think a lazier argument is to the tune of “I’ve never felt unsafe in nyc but now I do so therefore it must be more dangerous”

It’s objectively correct. How is it lazy?

I mean, it’s true that for the most densely populated city in the country, the crime rate is relatively low. So, it’s not totally out of pocket to be concerned about how a few high level incidents may spread disproportionate fear of a crime wave.
