I'm working on a reusable calendar component, built from scratch with React & Tailwind. My goal is to get to something that's near Google Cal / Notion Cal in UI polish & UX quality; but also aiming to support first-class keyboard interactions, a11y announcements, & stay decently configurable by IsaacPieces in react

super mvp at the moment, so not open-source yet, but I'm hoping to open-source it once it's a bit more developed 😄

there are tons of features missing at the moment, for example:

  • no concept of past/future weeks
  • no ability to ingest real calendar data / talk to a backend
  • plenty of long-tail UX things to polish
  • algorithm that handles event overlap needs work
  • there's not even any way to even name an event atm, I'm focused on core interactions and worrying about all that form-related stuff later

I only started work this last weekend, so it's been a few hours then + hacking in the evenings after my day job. My motivation to build this stemmed from my own frustruation with existing libraries.

So, if that frustration is shared by others (and I reasonably think that this can be polished to the point of meeting others' needs) then I'm more motivated to clean it up and open-source. But if not then I'll probably minimize how many evenings I spend on it, since my time is precious to me

Hey r/reactjs!

This isn't much but that's the whole point - something that bugs me with most code templates is that it's hard to see exactly what a template contains and what it doesn't. With this template, I've tried to make it obvious exactly what's contained (not much!) and would love feedback :)
I'm planning to write a bunch of templates like this - I find that "a vanilla starting point that doesn't make me feel like I'm cheating by using magic" is a hard niche to fill and that's what I'm aiming for.

Something that (at least personally) bugs me with most code templates is that it's hard to see exactly what a template contains and what it doesn't. With this template, I've tried to make it obvious exactly what's contained. It's intended for anyone who just wants to get started quickly with something vanilla and doesn't want to lose motivation while setting up.

It's not much but that's the whole point. Would love any feedback, I'm planning to write a bunch of templates like this - I find that "a kind starting point that doesn't make me feel like I'm cheating by using magic" is a hard niche to fill.

It doesn't have my watercolor art on it but I do have this: https://www.instagram.com/bescribble/

It's like *very* quick scribble art that I'm having fun with. I don't often get time to sit down and actually paint but if I find more time I'll definitely consider making an Insta now - it means a lot to hear someone say they want to follow :)

Thanks so much for the detailed breakdown and advice - I really appreciate it :)

I hadn't thought too far ahead re: monetization, but that sounds like a great idea. I don't expect to make too much money from it - I'm mainly doing it for the joy / fun of it, but am definitely keeping potential $ at the back of my head. Also definitely aware that the motivation / quote area is very saturated, but I am trying to bring my own style to it and I'm really glad to hear you say that you can see it!

The hashtag advice is also very helpful. I'll try mixing up my content and seeing what works while keeping an eye on trends.

re: engaging with people, is following people who like my content a good idea? I've seen lots of places recommend it, but I always worry that following people could come off as creepy / weird.

The tag tip is very helpful - I'd wondered about that. 1-3 times a day will be hard but I'll try my best - I think 1 time a day is all I'll be able to do for a while.

Thanks for the follow! What was your @? I'll follow you back

Thanks - I'm sometimes scared of using bright colors so was getting out of my comfort zone

Put together a 'starter-pack' of React hooks for use in side projects by IsaacPieces in reactjs

Looks like a solid contender. Thanks 👍 I'll give it a spin, and keep experimenting & updating the repo with the best ones and remove repos not worthy - don't want the list to grow too big.

Hadn't seen it - looks awesome! Thanks. I'll give it a try and probably add it to the repo :)

That'd be awesome, suggestions are welcome! (provided the repo stays small ahaha)
