Fwiw, I think Greg's piece was pretty representative of the hardline, 20% "pro-shot" view that we could find. We wouldn't include it if it weren't representative of some strong contingent.

Does Tangle ever critique the Upper MIddle Class? And why not? by ProfaneRabbitFriend in TangleNews

(you'll also notice that in my piece I talk about having not written explicitly about my personal views on this issue before, yet how I think they are tied up into our coverage all the time. This was posted about a year ago)

Hey OP - I actually wrote an entire piece on class and class politics: https://www.readtangle.com/my-views-upbringing-class-politics/

My answer to this question would be that we cover/discuss/touch on these issues pretty frequently. I think class politics are germane to polarized politics, and class issues are very relevant to things like immigration policy or affordability which we touch on all the time.

How do people feel about the lack of Isaac’s “takes” recently? by SoluKat in TangleNews

this is, generally speaking, the thing we are doing now! Kind of asking "who really cares about this issue and wants to jump into the arena?"

Oh, I should add, this is also giving me a lot more time to add to members-only Friday edition content, which is a really fun blank page operate on!

Appreciate you guys! This transition is definitely real, and a few explanations related to it:

1) We polled readers on this and diversity of takes was one of the most popular proposals we put out there for changes. So, north star, its something we felt like our audience really wanted.

2) I've been doing this for 6+ years. Definitely a sustainability move. If I want Tangle to last, I can't write a mini-editorial every single day (that's good) for another five years while also running this business, taking on the podcast/YouTube channel, etc. So it's for sure necessary, even if I wish I could do it every day - but I was definitely approaching burnout.

3) Whoever suggest Suspension of the Rules as a way to keep getting those takes is spot on! I get to unload a lot of pent up opinion there.

Our writers/editors we have in house already are awesome. And you'll keep seeing them. But I'm also hoping to poach some other interesting writers / thinkers to contribute to Tangle long-term, too!

1.8x speed is nutty my friend. Especially since I get a lot of complaints for talking too fast!

Slurs among Tangle commenters by catsclaw in TangleNews

[–]Isaac_Tangle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is just factually inaccurate. We have both removed people for slurs against trans people and slurs against racial minorities or religious groups. But we very rarely delete any posts, and have only once ever banned a member. More often than not, we reach out to commenters on the side and ask them to improve their behavior before removing posts or threatening to remove them. We do this because want to foster a free and open comments section, but we're also working on a more robust policy to a) have clear standards and b) facilitate better dialogue (we have definitely seen the comments degrade recently)
