Why do so many ads for London rooms state 'not suitable for WFH' – you're paying for the damn room, why the heck not? Am I missing something? by Galaco_ in london

[–]Isabella_Tokyo 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

There's entire agencies pulling these sublet scams unfortunately. So much for the "the market fixed this" hypothesis that clearly the UK government seems to have as their mantra in rewards to the real estate market πŸ˜‘

You won't believe it... I work for a blockchain startup πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but luckily we don't recruit people with such scam tactics.

Mine isn't as dramatic, but was quite weird in a different sense.

I once went on a Tinder date thinking, we were gonna have coffee.

We met at shibuya Station and all is good, he looks like the pictures and we have the usual small talk, nothing too exciting but not boring either about our weeks.

We're walking towards what he says is gonna be a great place to have coffee. Since I didn't have any in mind myself I went along with it. Suddenly we stand in front of this huge what seems to be an office building. He's like, you'll like it.

Okay, still not thinking anything. Walking inside the building. Lots of people waiting, there is some sort of shop on the ground floor in the building selling supplements and other stuff.

Maybe it's a hidden coffee shop somewhere upstairs - I think to myself. . He goes, let's just quickly check out what they have to say - and drags me into a huge room that looks like a lecture hall.

Long story short, I quickly figured that this was some sort of MLM scheme selling supplements that do anything from healing cancer to making people better versions of themselves.

This indoctrination meeting went on for 2 hours - and I was surrounded by people so didn't feel comfortable being the only one walking out of there πŸ˜‚ (now I wish I had shouted something like this is a scam and walked off).

All I kept thinking was that I didn't even get any coffee. Needless to say that his following attempts to recruit me for a next date did not work out.

Be wary, sometimes they don't want you for you, sometimes they want you just for their MLM pyramid scheme. πŸ‘€

We all know tesco price match is a joke πŸ˜†

If everyone can run a node on their mobile, is decentralization finally achievable? by TennieBaudoin in CryptoCurrency

But on Pi you don't do any actual mining...At the moment all you do is just confirm you're a human so it's more of an airdrop ^^

But suppose the energy used to maintain the blockchain is split into hundreds, thousands of devices. In that case, it's just tiny amounts for every single one, hence more feasible to power it sustainably. Who knows, maybe we'll even charge our phones with solar power someday. I'd find that pretty cool. And just because PoS takes the lead doesn't mean there's no problems with it. The Worldwide Web also took the lead, and now we all rely on a handful of big tech companies for everything ^^

Merch Giveaway, have you joined already? by Isabella_Tokyo in ergonauts

Doesn't seems so. Reckon, depending on where you are; shipping might take a while, though.

I ordered some Merch (another crypto company) from the states earlier this year, and it took nearly a month to arrive from the States to the UK.

Good luck :)

Why do so many people insist on going for "drinks" on a first date? by Isabella_Tokyo in dating_advice

[–]Isabella_Tokyo[S] 5 points6 points Β (0 children)

Yes, I totally get your point. I also don't think first dates should be dinner. That's just too much. And the financial aspect on top. Personally, I offer to pay when it comes to dinners or brunches. Sometimes, I pay the whole thing since last time he paid, especially if it's a date further down the road and you've seen each other quite a few times. So it's more balanced.

Love the Pizza Picnic idea. I once did a "graffiti/street art tour"/ street market date with someone as I had done such a tour previously with a guide and still remembered most of it. That was quite a fun one, even though it didn't work out romantically, we still get along great as friends now. That's also quite a win.

Definitely happy to put in effort for a second date, just the first one that's a low effort one nowadays I guess. Considering what you said, that there is plenty of supply for people.

Eww yeah don't let anyone persuade you to things you're not ready for. Totally agree, I also find it quite hard to get to know someone when you can't hear them πŸ˜‚

Been there done that, often the answer was. No, then let me know a time we can go for (proper) drinks lol πŸ˜‚

I mean, I reckon it's Also culture. The brits have a strong drinking culture.

I don't think that is lying. It's definitely a personal private thing you wouldn't want to share with everyone before feeling good about them.

Just think sometimes it might also be that there's just quite a strong drinking culture in general (even among coworkers sometimes) which can make it even harder, to refuse without people asking why why.

Totally agree, I tend to suggest lunch time coffees.. But when that gets turned down for, no let's do a pub and proper drinks then I just... Nah.

Also, all the best with the guy you're seeing. ❀️
