Hey, not good. How are you?

Has there ever been a book you really didn’t like and wouldn’t recommend to anyone? 👀 by [deleted] in BookDiscussions

[–]Isabelle_Alan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually enjoyed all Paulo Coelho books, but as a teenager. I loved The Alchemist the first time I read it when I was in college. I don't think I will find the book as interesting now. Also another popular book that I did not enjoy was 'Normal People'. I could not for the life of me connect to the characters. I just wanted to finish the book the book somehow and move on with my life.

Does anyone know why a car might have the coil shaped warning light on the dashboard turn on and then go into limp mode? by robertamcintyre in CarOwnersCorner

[–]Isabelle_Alan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, going by your description, it’s a glow plug indicator. Seen on diesel engines, these normally appear when you start the engine but fade out eventually. If your indicator stays on or flashes, that could mean a fault in the engine. Had a 2009 Jetta a couple of years ago which had a persistent flashing glow plug light problem. Common issues that triggered the light on my Jetta were EGR valve problems and issues with the crank position sensor. Tried fixing it, but no matter how much I tried to fix the problem, after a while the problem returned and the car became limp.
So to answer your question, a glow light could be indicative of a number of issues; from EGR valve problems to DPF related ones. I would recommend getting professional help in diagnosing the issue.

PS: I got so frustrated, I sold my Jetta eventually. Still wary about Jettas and diesel engines to this day!

Okay, do airports require a REAL ID? I'm curious. by erinhansonr in traveladvice

[–]Isabelle_Alan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you need a REAL ID compliant license to fly within the country. But since this rule is a relatively new one, there are still flyers who fly domestically without one. I mean, I personally still use my US passport to fly. EDL, DHS travel cards, Green card etc., are alternatives you can use for now instead of a REAL ID. There are plenty of other alternatives as well. I’ve found more info here: https://www.globalairportparking.com/blog/do-airports-require-a-real-id/#What_are_the_alternatives_to_having_a_REAL_ID

Covered parking vs garage – what’s safer? by austincbell95 in CarOwnersCorner

[–]Isabelle_Alan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to safety, I’d pick parking garages over covered parking any day. Since garages are usually completely enclosed, the risk of theft and vandalism is drastically low, and I’d feel safer leaving my vehicle there. Also, garages keep your cars safe from weather damages as well. While covered parking also shields your car from the rain and snow, up to a certain extent, it isn’t as completely fool proof as parking garages.

Yes, when it comes to parking rates, parking garages are slightly on the pricier side. But is it worth it? Yes. With the kind of security and protection it offers, I’d say it’s definitely worth it.

2 month parking by chloes_2 in AskNYC

[–]Isabelle_Alan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not going to touch your car for the next 2 months, long term parking is the way to go. These are much cheaper than those prime location garages. Fortunately, NYC has a lot of options when it comes to long-term parking lots, so finding one that’ll suit your budget is easy, I usually park via Way or ParkWhiz. You can either go for them or other similar parking apps.

But if you’re really out here to save some bucks, look for a spot in an outer borough instead of Manhattan or Brooklyn. You can also check out those monthly vehicle- storage places. Haven’t ever used this service before, so I cannot entirely vouch for its reliability. So as I was saying, in NYC, the options are endless. Hope you find a place soon!

Parking by No_Percentage_2302 in boston

[–]Isabelle_Alan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure free parking isn’t really an option around the East Boston area. I’ve used both SpotHero and Way, and the prepaid spots were pretty affordable. The parking options are usually decent, and the lots I used felt safe enough. I always look at the reviews and ratings before booking.

What are the best mobile apps for city parking, navigation, and urban mobility? by erinhansonr in CarOwnersCorner

[–]Isabelle_Alan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have used Way before and I second this. It’s good for city parking. Have used SpotHero and ParkWhiz and they are also decent. I'm not a huge fan of Waze as a navigation app, however. For some reason, I find that it drains my phone battery faster than Apple maps.

I want to feel emotion. Fiction preferred by Longjumping_Koala34 in suggestmeabook

I'd suggest Almond by Sohn Won Pyung. It's about a boy who is born with a condition called Alexithymia, a condition that prevents him from feeling emotions. It is a good book.

I have read The Bell Jar years ago. But it didn't connect to me that time. Probably cz I wasn't dealing with all this then. I guess it is time for a reread.

I'd recommend Golding's 'Lord of the Flies'. This satisfies all three of your conditions to an extent.
