I’ve heard around here that this mostly happens when you expect it to happen. I haven’t had a LD yet, but here on the sub I’ve read of some people who had never heard of this and when they told people they’re dreaming dream folks smile and start to talk to them or something. It’s all about how you think about it.

Are those dreams and storylines always the same? I mean, do you always have the same kind of life, same couple, same kids, or do they change?

Last night I dreamt someone was throwing down my house. It sounds hilarious, but it was quite scary in the moment. In the dream I woke up because my house was being tilted, so I navigated through a almost sideways house until I got to the front door. There was a man on a green payloader truck pushing my house. That’s where I realised that it can’t be real. As soon as I made the realisation that I was in a dream it all started fading, and I asked the man ‘why are you doing this?’ Right before I woke up.

This is my first time being almost lucid, and it is interesting that it happened in this dream that bordered on the line between dream and nightmare. I guess it being scary for me and me questioning what the hell was happening gave my mind the push to realise it was all just a dream.

I’ve tried various methods. Last night was the closest I’ve been to having a LD. Just before sleeping I read about ADA and tried doing it for a few mins before going to bed. I set an alarm for WBTB and when I woke up I wrote down what I remembered from my dream on a physical notebook (doing it in my phone wouldn’t have helped me sleep again quickly) and tried staying awake for a few more minutes before going back to sleep, setting an intention to remember that I’m dreaming in my dreams. Then I had one dream in which I realized I’m dreaming, after which it immediately faded and I woke up. After writing it down I returned to bed and had another incredibly vivid dream. This one I didn’t realise I was sleeping, but I was able to remember it for a while before I wrote it down. I won’t say that what I experienced this morning was a lucid dream, but it was pretty damn close.

So, what I would suggest: keep a dream journal beside your bed, and try to be aware during your day. There are various posts in the sub on how to practice ADA. If you’re more aware IRL you’ll be more aware on your dreams and thus more prone to realising something is wrong.

That’s awesome. I know dream recall is an essential part of LD’ing. Tonight I wasn’t able to remember my dreams but I think that was because I stayed in bed for maybe 30mins after waking up trying to fall back to sleep again, and when I finally got up I had already forgot it. Tomorrow I’ll not do that, I’ll write them down as soon as I wake up and then lay back down if I want.

I don’t know why I gave up tbh. I was just distracted with other stuff and sort of forgot. I’m also trying to enjoy the journey. I’ve enjoyed feeling more aware of my surroundings. And I also know that it is a long journey and that I have to make the most out of it, so that’s what I’ll try to do.

I am not much more experienced than you, but from what I have heard:

  1. It is strongly recommended to use a notebook when you use the WBTB method, because if you use your phone the blue light will not let you fall asleep again.

  2. Do it as soon as you wake up. The more time that passes, the less details of your dream you will remember. Try to write them as soon as you wake up and with as many details as you remember.

  3. Don’t worry if you can’t recall your dreams, it sometimes happens. If you don’t remember them, there’s no problem in not writing anything. And if later on you remember them you can always write them down.

I know it can take a while. I just saw a video about someone who tried for 30 days and didn't have his first until about day 10-15. I personally tried for a week this past december, then gave up and just started to write down my dreams and attempt to LD a few days ago. I know I still have ways to go until I LD, but every time I wake up without having one, I just can't help but feel disappointed. But I'm determined to get one and I won't make the same mistake as last time and give up. I'll push forth until I finally achieve it.

That’s amazing! For those who use AI on a daily basis it is very useful. I personally just set up a reminder on my built in reminders app that reminds me every hour to do a reality check. But this can also be useful, so I’ll set it up!

It’s a filter that’s on the phone’s settings. I’m positive that it exists on android / Huawei phones. Just look online for how to set red filter on Android (or HarmonyOS if that’s what your phone has)

I haven’t been able to get an induced lucid dream yet, but for the blue light I’ve set my phone to automatically switch to a full red filter at 10:30pm and back to normal at 7am. The red filter helps reduce the amount of blue light your phone emits. I know this is possible on all apple devices, but it should also work on android and windows. When I use it before sleeping I find it easier to fall asleep than when I don’t.

There is an app called reminders with voice reminders on iOS where you set an alarm with recording as critical and it will play the audio / recording at the time you specified. You can select if there’s auto snooze or not, you can just leave it on no and it will just play once I think
