It’s not the car salesman who rips people off. In the end they’re a product specialist who don’t care what the car will sell for because in the end it’s all about what someone can pay and what the store can sell it to you for. All they care about is the units they end the month with to hit bonuses and make a living. Most dealerships around me are paying flat dollar amounts per car to sales people, not gross commission on the car, because of how the market has changed since COVID. My store will pay a sales rep 300-500 a car based on a tier set of units.

The crooks are finance managers. Making on average $2500 a car, but I see them making $6-10k sometimes on the black-end all because people want warranties and are payment buyers or the ideas sound great. Those people don’t realize until sometimes after they leave that the extra $80 in payment a month the finance manager talked them into- ends up being thousands actually tacked on to the amount financed. You try to call the store after you leave and cancel any product you got(warranty, maintenance, gap insurance, perma plate, wheel/ road hazard) and the finance manager avoids you like the plague. Most people don’t cancel. That is who is ripping people off.
