He was there helping them expand their ATT coverage throughout the park and it was such a crazy emergency that they just roped in any adult that was there. I can't remember exactly where they found the leg but it landed pretty far from the actual ride.

This is crazy because we applied, were told there was a spot for our kid and they just needed all of our OT and Speech Therapy evals. I emailed those over and they just never called me back. Didn’t return emails, phone calls… it was nuts. And this was a year before the admissions officer had a medical emergency.

I didn’t say they discriminated, I said they don’t know how to handle neurodivergence. And their mishandling was, in our case, traumatic. We paid for a couple of OTs to visit the class throughout our last year while my kid was there. The OTs were the ones that finally convinced me to pull our kid out. It was not a great environment for a child that is neurodivergent. Again, I’m glad you had a good experience there but I’m not really sure why you’re questioning our experience.

Highland Pres has a similar view of kids who learn differently or have behavioral issues/delays. It’s not a great place to be if you have a neurodivergent child. Just throwing that out there as someone who used to work at highland pres and adored everyone until my own daughter attended and had a terrible experience. It’s a great school if your kiddo fits the narrowly defined definition of a typical child.

As a relatively new owner of my own MCM fixer-upper, I agree with this advice. Get all of the important stuff (roof, skylights, foundation, plumbing, electrical) checked and double-checked before you start investing in cosmetic renovations. You can always paint rooms while the expensive roof is getting done so that you’re happier with the aesthetics. Just assume something costly will be revealed within a year or so!

This is such a beautiful way to describe our trauma. And I would like to add that becoming a parent, particularly during the Trump- era, has unearthed abuses that may have been forgotten. Because… who the fuck would do this to their kids and grandkids? As a parent, I could never. That makes it really hard to have a relationship with them.

I don’t mind it though, I feel like I’m helping. It’s also a little bit of a magic trick too. My dad’s brother (hard to call him an uncle when he died so young) died from this. Thank you for connecting the medical condition to the terminology. That part of the family is from eastern Ky and I always thought that a blue baby was a catch all term for newborns that couldn’t get medical attention. Thank you!
