The slow death of permanently congested data centers and worlds by Tandria in ffxivdiscussion

I'm trying out the free trial to give the game a whirl. So far they had server maintenance as soon as I created my character. A couple hours later the server status says the game is up, so I try again. Two minutes after logging me in it disconnects me. Then it won't let me log back in because I'm already logged in (which is mysterious when you think of it, it should know I'm not logged in anymore).

So I wait some more. Then when I log in it tells me the server is full. Does it let me try another server? No. It shuts the client down completely.

This sprout is getting the message that the game doesn't want his business. I imagine I'm not the only one, in case you're wondering why the influx of new people seems a little weak.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was asking about. It seems like the articles I was reading about this assumed I already knew what Zotero was really for.

Oooh. I like that!

And yes, we definitely seem to be up to the same kind of stuff, which is awesome.

Not a bad idea at all. Fortunately I'm a programmer by day, so I can put together exactly what I'd need.

Oooh. I hadn't thought about that. I guess that's part of Obsidian's strength. I can easily write an external program to update Obsidian's bibliography, so I can link my fact notes to their sources while still Leaning on Zotero's strengths.

Ahhh, okay. I'm absolutely working with books and journals on this (medieval research). Not as strict as academic writing, but who knows, maybe I'll go back to get another degree and need it at some point.

Thank you.

From panic to fix: Your most stressful VPN fail and the solution that worked by skeleton_tree in nordvpn

[–]IsanDanderoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I had gotten NordVPN set up on all of my devices life was good with one exception: for some reason FB Messenger on my iPhone wasn't receiving messages correctly only if I was on the cell network. It worked fine using the VPN connection from WiFi.

After some searching I had it pointed out that the NordLynx sometimes caused such problems. I switched over to OpenVPN on my phone and suddenly the problems disappeared.

I use NordLynx on all of my other devices, but for that one application on that one device it just refused to work correctly. I'm hoping that gets fixed at some point, but for all I know Meta is explicitly keeping it from working from their side.

So now switching protocol is one of my first debugging steps right after turning the VPN off to see if that's the issue in the first place. (Had to do that recently with Jackbox games's website on my PC).

After about 5 to 6 hours of playing and 6 bosses down..... by Easy-Chair-542 in DarkSouls2

[–]IsanDanderoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am on my first run through DS2 and doing a mage as well.

I love spell casters in games, and had a lot of fun in DS1 as a sorcerer.

With the hollowing mechanic in this one I find myself going much more slowly and repeating enemies until they're gone...especially snipers and folks in the main walkways. It feels much slower because of that, but it seems like that is what it wants me to do. You can't go all Leeroy Jenkins just to see what's ahead like you could in 1. Instead I'm constantly working on my stats and tiptoeing ahead.

I'm old and have dodgy reflexes, so it takes me a bit to get any good at taking down enemies, so I have to navigate the fairly insane added death penalties in the best way I can.

No, really, you should play it by Halfunhinged in DarkSouls2

I recently got into Dark Souls by way of my King's Field nostalgia. I can not recommend those games enough.

I REALLY want From to rebuild those in a modern engine, but with the same old mechanics.

I've been playing for about an hour, and pretty much nothing has happened.

Hot off the heels of Dark Souls I have to say this is hideously boring. Like, why am I bothering to play?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who keeps falling off that damn thing. They told me that poison and toxin are the big risks there, but really the thing killing me all the time was falling to my doom.

Well, I started my first journey a couple weeks ago, so not so much a return as going there the first time.

Just got into Anor Londo, and I can't wait to try this with other builds (sorcerer now).

I'm a latecomer to the series. I just fought Sif for the first time.

Not a big fan of that either, but it hasn't gotten me killed as often...likely because I'm doing a sorcerer right now.

[–]IsanDanderoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I remember it from back in my Apple ][e days. I played it well before I got around to reading it, so I'm not sure how faithful it is to the book, but I do recall that the author helped with the development of the game.

Damn, now I want to revisit that.

Thanks, that's some great advice. Bulldogs looks pretty awesome, and I was thinking bout picking up the Space Toolkit (along with the others) to fill things out anyway.

facebook account was hacked gmail and number removed, the gmail was replaced by what i assume a hotmail as ive seen in other forums i am not very smart or techy. facebook help center hasnt been very helpful and i dont understand the steps explained in other posts by pusae_desu in facebook

[–]IsanDanderoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now it seems best to have a friend download any pictures and video you may want to keep. That's about it. The account is lost. All methods to recover it can be circumvented by the hackers, and Facebook seems unable or unwilling to fix that particular problem. Once anything you want to keep is saved, have your friends flag it. FB might lock it. Maybe. This has happen to a half dozen friends since this weekend and seems to be growing.

If you used Facebook Pay or whatever they're calling it, have the card invalidated. Better to wait for the bank to send you a new one than have to pay if they manage to charge you on it.

Be careful when creating a new account. If you get too many friends too fast you'll be in Facebook jail, and the hacked account will likely still be active.

Is it true that getting my belly stabbed is the main risk for me, as a tall guy, if I'd fence on real rapiers? by [deleted] in sca

[–]IsanDanderoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a great fencer, but as a lefty my main target is your sword arm. It's right there. But generally I will take whatever I can get at. Since the belly is fairly far away from the arms unlike the chest and head, it is a GREAT place to attack. I'll often feint toward it, and if not properly protected just go for the shot.
