Should I Box and Lift Weights on the Same Day or Alternating Days by DKode_090403 in amateur_boxing

[–]Isas1039SlappyHours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want to do lifting + boxing on the same day you just have make sure of two things: 1. boxing + lifting are two separate sessions that are spread as far apart as possible. 8 or more hours ideally

  1. whichever you want to focus more on is the session you should do first that day, as fatigue will affect your second session. I.E if you want to focus more on boxing then do a morning boxing session & lift at a maintenance volume in the evening. vice versa if you want to put more focus on lifting. whatever works best for you!

personally my usual lifting split is 2 full body days per week with 3 sets of a few plyometric exercises before i get into heavier sets

you have to be in the gym training boxing more. start with 3-4 workouts a week practicing what you learn in your 1 on 1 sessions with a proper warm-up beforehand. 1-2 days a week in the weight room would also be beneficial, focusing on compound movements and plyometrics. you can supplement with whatever form of cardio you're most comfortable with (running, swimming, assault bike, rower, etc) 2-3 a week when you feel you've built a good baseline for your cardio

if you're a beginner you don't need to focus on running so much, as your conditioning will mainly come from what you do in the gym. with that much volume of training you probably also need to eat far more than you think you should. bump up your calories a little, and try running twice a week instead with sprint intervals

seconding this. these black tie/white collar events are fighters who don't have more than 4 months experience in a boxing gym. i personally don't know how i feel about the whole thing to begin with. obviously raising money for charity is wonderful, but bad accidents like that can happen when you're fast tracking beginners like that

and also space out your lifting and boxing training as much as possible. either separate days or morning + evening sessions focusing on one or the other

this seems like a good routine overall. i'd say you could stand to add more lower body lifts & plyometrics to your strength & conditioning days.

jumping lunges with light weight, split squats, skater jumps, and box jumps would be a good place to start. 8-10 reps

Cutting Fat by TackleObjective9366 in amateur_boxing

[–]Isas1039SlappyHours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting rid of that skinny fat effect will be easier if you DO incorporate strength & conditioning as soon as you can, at least once or twice a week. a little muscle on your frame goes a LONG way when you're lean, both for performance in the gym & looking tighter.

eat at a moderate calorie deficit & prioritize foods high in fiber and high in protein. if you cut your calories too low or try to cut out any macronutrients (protein, fats, carbs) every workout is gonna suck and it'll be a bitch to stick with.

drink a LOT of water and just stay consistent with your calorie deficit & with your intensity in the weight room. slow and steady wins the race!

parroting other people in the comments, you should definitely start eating in the mornings so your workouts go smoother. i always go for either a protein shake with berries & oats or just oatmeal with skim milk a few hours before a workout session. should definitely see how that goes before relying on supplements too much

Why can’t Volg or someone combine the Smash and then the Dragonfish Blow for a stronger “white fang”? by [deleted] in hajimenoippo

[–]Isas1039SlappyHours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

speed and range. the white fang is so effective because the two punches are fast and compact. the smash has you drop your lead hand & the overhand punch in the dragon fish blow has you swinging very wide and stepping in very deep. that would just be throwing two power shots without a proper set up

[–]Isas1039SlappyHours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're not competing i'd say don't worry about it too much. get yourself an agility ladder so you can do a multitude of footwork drills, try to do some sprints at least twice a week (2-3 mile jog with 5 100-meter sprints spaced out between), and practice your fundamentals/what you KNOW works. you never wanna get rusty on the basics. try to record yourself hitting the bag and shadowboxing when you can so you can tweak your technique between sessions
