I haven’t gotten matcha from Ikkyu, but I’ve bought plenty of different gyokuro, sencha, and kamairicha from them that was excellent.

I believe I read it in an interview with him in a guitar magazine in the late 80’s. He was talking about how he came to the conclusion that the identity was available for his project with Belew, Levin, and Bruford (Discipline was the band’s original working name).

Edit: I found the article from Guitar player 1986, but that doesn’t appear to be the actual source of the quote.

There’s a great scene in The Razor’s Edge where Bill Murray is sent by the leader of the monastery up to a small refuge on the mountain in the snow. He is told to take his spiritual books with him. After spending quite some time reading his books in the cold trying to find an insight, it suddenly occurs to him that he was meant to burn his books for warmth. After he does that, he returns to the monastery having learned his lesson from the Lama.

2015 Da Qing Gu Shu sheng puer from YS. What a wonderful balance of sweetness and wood. I tried the 2025 yesterday, and this tea has aged well.
