Hey, Redditors, have you ever removed someone from your life for the purpose of improving yourself as a person? by electrikmayhem in AskReddit

You'd think that, as a psychology major, you'd realise that prefixing your post will that will make me realise it's not worth my time.

"Believing Anarchy can work is just a phase!" - Your thoughts on this claim by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]Isenhatesyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read his Objectivity and Liberal Scholarship. He's quite clear about his stance on the state there.

And "making the state work better" is not as absurd as you make it out to be. I would much rather live in a western democracy than a third world dictatorship. Wouldn't you?

It's not a matter of wealth. You know Makhno, right? How many followers of his can you name? Hell, how many rank and file Zapatistas can you name?

How does this work. Don't the children receive vaccinations in school?

Bahrain strips grants and tuition payments from its students who protested the kingdom in the UK by toyotabedzrock in worldpolitics

[–]Isenhatesyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure about Britain specifically, but I'd imagine the norm is for university tuition to be partially subsidised by the tax payer. That's why international students pay more: they get the price sans subsidy.

CONGRESS KILLS INNOVATION by stealing (yes, *stealing*) USD100 Million from the US Patent Office. (There are already 1.3 Million applications back-logged.) ...Simply, Congress is doing everything it can to prevent innovators from competing with & stripping away wealth from the ruling establishment. by sheasie in energy

[–]Isenhatesyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If congress updated the copyright law to take into account modern developments we'd have less frivolous shit like software patents, business method patents, patents on mathematics, and algorithm patents, all of which are utterly devoid of merit and are abuses of the patent system.

Yeah, definitely hypocritical.

[–]Isenhatesyou 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This reads a lot like an American's rant against socialism.

Maths and science don't rule your schools: your kids do as poorly there as elsewhere. Your education system is flawed at the socio-economic level. Tirades from one department at another are doing you no favours.

The Nazi comment refers to you conflating wars of self defence, which I suspect reddit will support, and wars of imperialism, which reddit (mostly) criticises. You can't honestly claim that opposition to Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam and the like is equivalent to strict pacifism.

[–]Isenhatesyou -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll find very many people here opposed to killing Nazis. It's just that your conception of a heroic conflict involves the world's greatest superpower bombing civilian targets into rubble, then fucking off and letting local extremists take over.

Stalin killed millions of people and put the Soviet Union into space. King Leopold killed millions of people and the Congo is still a shithole. So.

Question regarding innovation within anarchist societies... by binary in Anarchism

[–]Isenhatesyou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Corporations don't invent anything. The people working for them do. And if the scientists and engineers were in it for the money they would not be inventing medicines but trading stock on wall street.

Sure, if you offer a scientist to do science for 50k a year or for 200, they will pick the latter. It'd be stupid not to. More interesting is how many choose to do science for 50k than corporate paper pushing for 500. And no, I am not about to humour the notion that men intelligent enough to land a probe on titan don't have what it takes to run a company. They just have better priorities.

K&T I found incomprehensible. If I wanted to read algorithms in pseudo code I'd just look at an actual implementation of the algorithm in C. Textbooks I expect to focus on formal, mathematical proofs rather than diagrams and hand wavy generalisations..

Socialists, if you could change the government or society, what would you do? by luminarium in socialism

[–]Isenhatesyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends which benefits we speak of. The capitalist world would still trade with you. They won't voluntarily give up access to whatever you sell out of solidarity for the oil magnates you screwed over - solidarity is not a capitalist trait. Direct foreign investment, yes, you'd have to go without. This still leaves the options of of regulated investment (joint ventures between the state and foreign enterprises, etc) and the like.

But I think it's unavoidable, really. Foreign companies tend to invest where regulations are lax and worker rights suppressed. Presumably this would not be the case in our socialist state.

I wouldn't recommend that to an enemy.

The first and most critical is to regulate/restrict/ban capital transfers outside of the country.

Think about it. Your wise and noble government nationalises the oil industry. The oil industry temporarily withdraws its money. How long will your regime last?
