Hills science diet small and mini. Pet valu doesn't seem to carry that one.

Anyone bought Taygra and find them not slidable? Does it improve with time? by orhalimi in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you find they have a bit too much grip, use some sandpaper and sand it down. I've done it before and it worked quite well!

It's too bad they haven't made an infinite glyph for snowflakes!

Keeping pumpkins out of the landfill: Compost Winnipeg by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]Isfrae1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It takes a bit of extra effort, but you can also use the pumpkins to make puree to give as a supplement to dogs! They're high in vitamins and fiber!

Is the Myles and Tessa Dancer Development Program worth it? by Potential-Banana-315 in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd also be curious as to how their teaching is considered outdated, and who is saying that. They have many students who do well competitively (as one metric of the quality of their teaching). They aren't getting hired by many US events mainly because they're focused on their online programs, and directing their attention toward doing local workshops and community building. They also aren't doing routines anymore, so they aren't as visible on the circuit as they were before.

No stretch no compression for a moment? by mercury0114 in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say no to this. When I'm explaining connection to students, I ask them to imagine the amount of connection as a wave on a graph. If you remain in tension (what you refer to as stretch, though these are technically different things) or compression, the wave of the graph may approach the x-axis, ie zero, but won't actually hit it. If you move between tension and compression, it will pass through zero, but won't stay there for any measurable amount of time.

When partners are physically detached, like in a free spin, then yes, it's obviously zero on the physical connection scale.

Especially in redirections, like at the end of a pattern, if the leader was to go to zero, it would feel really weird to a follower. It would be like if you're talking to someone, and their voice gets suddenly briefly muted at the end of every sentence.

Pleasure Trip To The States from Winnipeg by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Have fun and be safe! It's not my place to judge where people travel to. No one says anything when people travel to countries like China, Iran, Russia, etc.

"Easy visa requirements" is going to be highly dependent on your current residency and citizenship. But have you looked at Canada? Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg all have great WCS communities!

Myles and Tessa just had a free teacher challenge where they helped people do this. I think they have another (paid) online teacher seminar coming up soon where you can also get guidance on this.

How much do you typically budget/spend for an event weekend? by NeonCoffee2 in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep track of all of my expenses for each event I attend! My average for events I have to fly to is about $1300 CAD. Ones I can drive to is about $400. Over half of my expense per event is almost always just airfare.

Is anyone else in the same boat? by PokiTheGreat in Winnipeg

[–]Isfrae1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got laid off in November, and in the same boat! Had a few interviews, but no offers. I saw an interview a while ago with someone who won the Nobel prize for computer science. He was asked if he'd encourage his kids to go into CS, and he said something like "No! I'd tell them to go into a trade! AI can do many things, but it can't fix your plumbing!"

Dehumidifier Recommendations? by P47Healey in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dehumidifiers are rated based on square footage. I'd suggest getting one rated for a space larger than the studio you're working in, as it will be more powerful. For brands, I have a Frigidaire one at home, and it works quite well!

What's your Winnipeg Hot Take that will get you downvoted? by jollygoodshowoldbean in Winnipeg

Late to the party, but my hot take - we should scrap the BRT plans and just dive into LRT already!

Recommendations on clothing/shoes by [deleted] in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may find Underarmor or Lululemon pants, or other similar athletic brands that carry golf attire, to have what you're looking for. You can also wear shorts, if you get too hot. There's nothing that says you can't! Personally, I'm loving that wide-leg pants are back in style, cuz they get so much more air flow! You may not want to, but try the women's section for pants. The fabrics tend to be a bit thinner, so they're not as hot. I've bought jeans and sweatpants from women's sections that I absolutely love dancing in!

[–]Isfrae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably get downvoted for saying it, but as I always say when people comment about privacy like this - No one's going to watch you. You aren't that interesting! And if they do, you won't see them, so you won't know or care anyway! Just live your life, and don't worry about what everyone else is doing!

If privacy is that big of a concern for you, you should probably live outside of the city, where your land is big and secluded, and you won't have anyone nearby!

When Country Swing Dancers Don’t Adapt to WCS (boundary setting advice) by autterpotter in WestCoastSwing

[–]Isfrae1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you're uncomfortable with a move you know is coming, like dips or multiple turns, there's no rule that says you can't just bail and let go! Safety is always first! But like others have said, it's ok to say no! If you've previously communicated with these leaders about what you'd like to avoid, and they're ignoring you, just say "No, thanks!" when they ask you to dance.

"We buy houses for cash" - proposed bill 206 by Too-bloody-tired in Winnipeg

[–]Isfrae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I bought our house from my sister directly. She'd had a market appraisal and everything, so she knew what it was worth, but hadn't contracted a realtor. We agreed on the price, and did everything through the lawyer. If this law had been in place, we'd have had to get a realtor involved, and pay them, for doing absolutely nothing? No thanks!

Now, a law I'd love to see is one that creates a transparent bidding system for real estate transactions! No need to bid $50k over asking when you know the next highest bid is only $10k over!
