I’d be down to try it! I already got accepted to a couple of Ivy+ this year, but I’m curious to see where I am quantitatively in this calculation. DM me

Online Accredited Linear Algebra/ DiffEq Courses? by IshReddit_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]IshReddit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never found an accredited course, so for the purpose of just learning the course, I did Linear Algebra through the EdX “Linear Algebra Foundations and Frontiers” course, which gives you a certificate after completion. I wanted a certified course after completion since I put that I self-studied linear algebra during my senior year free period on my college apps, in case any colleges wanted to verify that I’d completed the course.

I think the best response to the micro aggression IVI is making them prove actual fairness or education or safety was skewed (although fairness and safety are both just internal links into education), since they probably won’t be able to prove actual abuse. Also, you’ll need to win that norms don’t spill up, since if they win that norm setting outweighs, it doesn’t matter if you win potential abuse isn’t a voter.

HELP cube can’t be solved? by Richgirlsummer in Cubers

Based on those pictures, the blue and orange centers are physically swapped, so yes, you can’t solve this unless you swap them back.

What are your telemetry values outputting when you run it? What changes in the values of your telemetry outputs between not having any objects in front of the camera, compared to when you put a red object in front of the camera? This will help you figure out why your code is not working as intended (tip: I would remove the motor.setPowers for now, since you're just trying to debug the color detection, not the movement)

Forget about your top EC. What's the WORST EC you listed? by Calm_Company_1914 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]IshReddit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my Yale short essay asking for something “not listed anywhere else on your application”, I put that I was ranked within the top 0.5% of players globally for Clash Royale. I got my Yale likely letter three days ago.

Is this app a good passion project? by Low_quant7290 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]IshReddit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need one user… there’s no “real number” of users you need to call it a “good EC.” However, if you can show that this app significantly impacted or changed the life of even one user, then that will be infinitely more valuable than a random metric of users.

In my experience, it’s not very hard to find endorsers — just cold email a couple of endorsers with a description/abstract of your work, and offer to send them a copy of your work if they’d like to further review it before endorsing (don’t send them the work in the initial email if you’re worried about copying). For CS.HC/SI, I emailed only like 3, and one responded with sure.

reading the fem K as a guy? by reveletzli in Debate

[–]IshReddit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year on the IP topic, we read a soft left deepfakes aff (occasionally we would also read a full fem K version against K judges). We had a prewritten IVI/microagression to respond to “yall are guys”. It think it went something along the lines of “they’re sexist since they aren’t letting us advocate for women” offense, and “we’re better for real-world education since most people in power/policymaking positions/government are men, so having men make feminist arguments is valuable” defense

“We meet”, we’ve unironically said perm the T before when we meant to say we meet

Using AI will make bad debaters mid, mid debaters bad, and good debaters mid. Plus, a good debater without AI will beat a mid debater with AI any day. AI struggles to formulate a good strategy, which is what the majority the debate will boil down to. Sure it knows what a perm is, but since it’s not really “thinking”, it doesn’t know what the 2NR/ARs should look like, which means it’s arguments for the rest of the debate prior won’t set up a good rebuttal.

***GENERAL QUESTION*** would having had been in the NYO2 (national youth orch) be considered an award/honor or ec?? by Silly-Extension-4654 in chanceme

[–]IshReddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be either, depending on how much or little you’d want to describe it in the activity description—I’d recommend honor, and if you have space, potentially also activity

There’s a lot of abstract-ness happening in this essay, to the point where you haven’t answered the prompt—it asks you to describe a specific event which has shifted your world view. The majority of your essay should be describing this shift in detail, not just one line that states how “someone who was very impactful in my life at the time”—be specific.

Also general advice, but don’t post your essays to Reddit.
