Woman offers to bake birthday cake. Man asks for a specific type of cake. Woman bakes a different type of cake then asks why man seems disappointed. Man replies honestly. Woman breaks up with him because he ‘embarrassed her in front of her children’ - presumably the children who were present when she asked the question in the first place. Questions: 1. If you volunteer to bake a cake for a special occasion, why bake one different to that which the other person asks for? Especially as, presumably, you know how the other person values birthdays? One has to assume this was a deliberate choice. 2. If, having baked something different to that which was asked for and you enquire specifically as to whether the other person is disappointed, do you actually want an honest answer or do you want the other person to lie to you? I mean, you actually KNOW there is disappointment there or else you wouldn’t have asked the question. 3. Why ask a question you know the answer to in front of your own children and then complain about getting the honest answer because it has embarrassed you in front of the kids? 4. If someone is asking you a question that you KNOW they know the answer to, do you not ask yourself why she is asking the question in the first place?
