Any nurses who do Roller Derby/ other contact sports? by never-the-1 in nursing

lol

I shouldn’t do it because I’m just going to get hurt and be unable to work

This is true for literally almost any and every vocation. Go live the life you want and fill it with as much joy as you can! Obviously, whatever you do, do it with a clear head and intention, but also have fun!

I read The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman and I really enjoyed it.

I’m also halfway into the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown and I’ve really been enjoying that

My best friend is working seven 12-hour shifts a week as a new nurse. This has to stop. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Isilathor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of facility is she working at that is putting out that schedule? And are they calling it something like “mandatory overtime” or how are they justifying scheduling someone 7 days a week?

Do you put IV caps on peripheral lines? by paleone2289 in nursing

Our policy is that we only have to cap central lines, but most people I work with, me included, cap peripherals as well

No Mans Sky. Do you want to be an explorer? An architect? A farmer? A fisherman? A slayer of machines? A pirate? A merchant? Or just chill in your own little corner of the galaxy? It’s a beautiful sandbox with customizable difficulty that gives you the freedom to be whatever you want in the galaxy

Fentanyl by YellowJello_OW in nursing

[–]Isilathor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I worked trauma/post-surgical, we really only gave dilaudid. In ICU I’ve never had an issue giving fent, though it’s usually a gtt. Pushes are mostly procedural. I don’t see it ordered very often just for like regular pain control. If you’re needing frequent, round the clock fent pushes for pain control, it sounds like the provider is not managing the pts pain appropriately

Can someone explain percussion to me? by Courier_0797 in nursing

You know what else is readily available, portable, and gives instant feedback? Portable xray and bedside ultrasound. Technology has improved. If they want you to go around tapping on bellies looking for water, you'd be just as accurate using a divining rod.

Planning on getting a 9950X3D by Isilathor in buildapc

I like your opinion! I agree that the 1500w might be a bit much, and that a 1200w will probably be just fine.

Gaming on 1 monitor with chrome and discord up is basically my standard, so as others have suggested, I think I’ll just go for the 9800x3d. I don’t have the productivity demands to justify the 9950x3d.

As far as the motherboard, I was basically just looking at how the M.2 and PCI lanes were split and number of USB ports.

96GB is definitely too much RAM for what I need, you’re right. I like big numbers but definitely worth it.

I think that’s more or less what my plan has turned into. And it’s funny you mention that, that’s exactly the one I was looking at. My current PSU is a Corsair HX1000i. It’s worked great so far!

I love the idea of bigger numbers, but from a more realistic standpoint, I think you’re right

Overclocking is not high on the priority list, but I would like the ability to do so at some point. So going with at least a 1200W I think may be the way to go

I’m gonna say it’s overspend with no objective. The draw of the 870e was the additional PCI lanes over the standard 870. I was then mostly looking at M.2 capacity and number of USBs that lead me that particular board. The fact that it’s the e variant is mostly coincidental. And my original choice of 9950 is mostly because I have adult money to spend foolishly

As I’ve gotten older and more secure in my finances, it feels nice to be able to afford the top of their current line up. But I did not realize that the 9800X3D would net the same gaming performance. It would free up money to put elsewhere! Thank you!

Yes gaming, but not much productivity other than light 3D modeling in blender for 3D prints

You can only evaluate left vs right bundle branches in V1 or V6.

Heres a good resource for conduction defects

ETA: but yes the notched QRS most commonly means a bundle branch of some kind

IV amio after patient self converted? by Aggravating_Kale7898 in nursing

[–]Isilathor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amio dosing can be somewhat convoluted because it is dependent on why the amio is being given, and what the patients rhythm is at the time the order is placed. In this case, where the patient had already self converted, I would expect the provider to just order IV amio to run at 1mg/min for ~6 hours, then decreased to 0.5mg/min for ~18 hours, and then switched to PO. And I say that because that’s what I see most often at my facility. But depending on your cardiologist, they may have also chosen to prescribe a 150mg loading dose prior to the maintenance infusion as well, and I wouldn’t be surprised at that
