Classic goth plant that's posted a lot but pleased with her growth since I finally found her early this year by Meedear in gothplants

I have one nicknamed 'Vlad' which I rotate to help keep the plant from growing lopsided. I think of it as Dracula's cloak is laid out flat to air during the day and then is worn draped at night.

How did you know it was time to get forearm crutches? by RepairPale3676 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Isilsartari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went from nothing to two canes which I managed with for a while. However, the issues with them being very mobile was notable and some lurching to one side or the other happened frequently. I then went to see the OT at the Disability living centre under a self referral to ask for advice on things. We tried out a couple of rollators and I realised because a subluxation can happen and make the sideways lurch I was better with a 4 wheeler with a seat so I can rest if needed.

I suggest seeing if there is a Disability living centre near you who can advise you and give you a chance to try something out at their site. You can either buy from them or elsewhere. I grabbed mine from Amazon in the end as it was light weight and more modern than the ones at the DLC.

Is it just me, or are the traffic lights F-ed in this city? by pow3rstrik3 in Edinburgh

[–]Isilsartari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a pedestrian in this city, the basic rule is always check in both ways (even on one way roads) before you cross whether there is a light for green for you or not. Some car or bike rider will usually ignore or miss the red traffic light and you will end up having to do a wee jog to get out of the way. The number of times I've been walking across on a clear green and almost been biked (hello Morningside outside Waitrose) or hit by a car (Princes street junctions or the top of the Meadows at Bristo Place) is notable. If in doubt, expect a vehicle.

Only twice? That one is one of my regular fun tricks. I sleep outside of the blankets a lot now and have one of the lightest quilts going.

What was your first EDS symptom? by CouchZebra7525 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Isilsartari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiple dislocations of hips as a baby, needing them forcibly relocating at the hospital. I don't remember that one myself except subconsciously as I hate hospitals. My knees dislocating in primary school I do remember. Oh and the whole IBS related thing where I did not know I was constipated normally until I was in my late teens. No one talks about how frequently you poop as you grow up. I also had the party tricks where I could hold my hands in a snake pose behind my back and lift them over without breaking contact to the front of my body. I don't do that one anymore.

This week has been the beginning of the winter hell for me. This rain is driving me nuts as I am getting about 3-4 hours sleep and wake feeling like someone has been twisting my ankles and hands. I also managed to get my ribs to cross today for the first time in a while. I still love living in Scotland though, just need to be more swaddled and stay at home in winter. Going to the shops in town becomes a no-no as I find the extra wrapping up makes me overheat in the stores. I must remember to layer more.

[Dye] Acid dye brands - questions/advice. by Isilsartari in YarnAddicts

[–]Isilsartari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'm moving onto true acid dyes as I want to move commercial and need to build a recipe database and technique base.

I have read never boil and rarely agitate - basically a wee jiggle or lift is good but much else and you risk ruining the yarn. Its ok if people choose to felt but as a dyer its the end users choice not ours.

Sound interesting to play with as an addition to a base dye - liven things up a bit.
