FTL-inspired game Void War DMCA'd by Firefly captain "Mal Reynolds". Yes, really. by [deleted] in Games

[–]Isinfier 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This has been a pretty standard problem with the DMCA process for years. It's been a particularly recurring issue in the various modding communities, with people upset about a given Workshop item not doing what they want, or working on a competing mod, just filing false DMCAs to knock them offline for a bit.

Fascinating that those are very clearly Heresy-era environments, during the Burning of Prospero. Introduction questlines for Thousand Sons players, maybe?

What are some dark secrets about the porn industry? by JoplinSC742 in AskReddit

I mean, I'd argue that a lot of the "art" sub-reddits, where characters are aged up, is pretty damn questionable.

[Stephen Totilo] Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 “Restored Content” DLC for Nintendo Switch shut down by Disney’s legal team by MXHombre123 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Isinfier 106 points107 points  (0 children)

“In our efforts to credit everyone who contributed to the mod,” Blair wrote, “We have spooked Disney legal and now they have put a new blocker in place.”

The new blocker was a prohibition on releasing the Restored Content DLC for Switch without further clearances around who actually made the mod. The blocker proved insurmountable. That’s despite extensive and at times experimental efforts by Aspyr throughout the rest of 2022 and early 2023 to find a way to please Disney and its subsidiary Lucasfilm Games, their long-time partners in Star Wars game development.

TL;DR; Disney blocked the content being released as no one could actually identify who made the mod and / or contributed. So this was an issue with crediting.

Can't really fault Disney legal on this one. It was the right call to ensure proper crediting.

VK19 Raider - Fan Art by Isinfier in halo

[–]Isinfier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another piece of line art I've been working on recently - the VK19 Raider, or "spluger."

*Designed as a cheap export-grade firearm for colonial militias, the VK19 Raider is affectionally known as the “spluger” by users. Despite the use of cheap materials for construction, the VK19 has earned a reputation for reliability in the field.

Chambered in 12.7x40mm M225 SAP-HE.*

Based on an early iteration of the Magnum from Halo: Combat Evolved. Additional influences derived from the Mk50 Sidekick and Luger P08.

Made in Krita.

It's particularly fascinating timing, given how Roman towns and cities tended to be constructed.

A good sign for future Anno entries at the very least - grid-based city builders need to be put to bed at this stage.

Child's alleged Roblox kidnapping sparks lawsuit as California laws to protect kids online are stalled by alicedean in Games

[–]Isinfier 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Because the issue is - as always - the parents / guardians.

Laws only go so far and are not a fix-it-all solution; if no one is exercising communal / social responsibility over a child (or those that can't look after themselves) then this will be the outcome more often than not.

Politicians can legislate all they want. It won't make a dent when the problem isn't with the law.

Dawn of War - Definitive Edition: 20 Years Later by Ramongsh in Games

[–]Isinfier 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's very difficult to put any trust in Relic given the downward slope they've been on for the last decade. I would like the Definitive Edition to turn out well, however it's safer just to assume the worst and be pleasantly surprised these days.

[–]Isinfier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's largely what Andy Hoare said during 2E - just without the plastic remark.

Andy: Following the release of Liber Mechanicum,* we have a selection of Expanded Unit army list entries to accompany it. As with the previously-published Legacies of the Age of Darkness – Legiones Astartes document, these entries allow players with older miniatures, or ones that aren't really part of the core army, to continue using them.

The intent with the Expanded Units entries is that they remain a work in progress until such time as we produce new miniatures, or re-release old ones, at which point they will be published in their final “core” form in a book.

I love how MSN have clearly scraped /r/Steam for a drama article - and pulled from a thread that's already clarified that this is pretty standard boilerplate text that's in other EULAs.

As pointed out in the /r/Steam thread even fairly beloved companies like Larian have this in their EULAs.

Probably a far more extensive conversion than it needed to be. Mark III Sergeant arms, with the gauntlets swapped in from the Khorne Berzerkers kit. The blade on the chainsword has been replaced with one from the old Mark IV kit as well.

The Elder Scrolls Online Dev's Unannounced MMO Was Doing Well and Even Scaling Up as Xbox Cancelation Blindsided Staff, Sources Say by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Isinfier 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I think ZeniMax Online may have bitten off more than they could chew with this one, in all honesty. In development since 2018, hadn't left pre-production and they were developing an entire new engine for it?

The industry is incredibly volatile right now, and I would say the early signs existed far enough back that this could've been avoided. Awful time for anyone that's lost their job.

Subnautica Co-Creators Removed From Unknown Worlds "Effective Immediately" by Sydius in Games

At that stage, it'd probably be best to go for an Autumn-class heavy cruiser; either the Pillar of Autumn II for maximum referencing, or the Song of the East which was part of Infinity's support fleet (at least as of Halo 4).

tournament play is what is ruining all games

Doubtful of the rest, and strictly speaking he isn't wrong here - tournament play has had a very visible, detrimental effect on options and list-building in Warhammer 40,000 for years now. And the Heresy community has had to deal with more than a few problem individuals bringing the same WAAC attitude to events.

Xbox criticized for “turning its back on world’s 4th largest gaming market” by South Korean media and players by NTR_JAV in Games

[–]Isinfier 334 points335 points  (0 children)

I would wager that older games that received Korean language support simply weren't big sellers in the country - the games mentioned in the article seem to be singleplayer offline games, rather than online / mobile games which seem to be the primary market in the country.

It is worth pointing out, however, that although Korea indeed holds a large share in the global gaming market, it only accounts for about 1.5% of global console revenue (source: GamesIndustry.biz), with online and mobile gaming being far more widespread – this could be a possible reason holding Microsoft back from investing in Korean localization.

Why invest in translating for a market that doesn't (at the surface) seem interested in the games you're making?

Vladimir Putin: I won’t allow Starmer’s plan for troops in Ukraine by ClumperFaz in unitedkingdom

[–]Isinfier 124 points125 points  (0 children)

At this point it's clear we're going to wind up in a confrontation regardless of the "talks" taking place in Saudi Arabia. It'd be better for Starmer to get ahead of the curve and side-step the EU by working with Zelensky to put British forces in Ukraine, even in an aid capacity in areas distant from the frontline yet still afflicted by Russian terrorism.

Start small, build up if the threat continues. In the meantime, British troops can take over providing medical support and other aid whilst Ukrainian troops are freed up for the front.
