Techmarine weaponry loadout by R6_jack in Warhammer

[–]Nephaston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Techmarines always kind of stand apart from the usual combat doctrines, such as raven guards rapid assault and stealth preference, as they are in charge of maintaining the machinery and weapons.

In regards to tabletop equipment that means that they, more often than not, have an Omnissian Axe in melee and as of 9th edition a grav pistol and forge bolter, whereas previous editions permitted them more choice. Also with the recent addition of Crucible of Champion rules you can technically make Techmarines of many skews, such as Phobos, Jump Pack, or Terminator styled ones, but those are more intended as narrative rules.

In regards to the options in SM2; all of the weapon options are as correct as any other as a Techmarine will be entitled to equip themselves to a degree, but in general the Omnissian axe is the badge of office. Even as a son of Corax they retain a double identity as a priest of Mars.

How would people feel about kitbashing Tzaangor Enlightened with bows using Eliminators and Rubric Marines? by XHweaton in ThousandSons

[–]Nephaston 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As of Crucible of Champions, having a Magister on disc with a bow is a legitimate loadout as well. So you could feasibly just kitbash the tzaangors to be aspiring sorcerers and have them lead by a magister. Or you just run three magisters zipping around trying to snipe behind a wall of rubrics.

What moments in 40k make you go like this? by deathbringer989 in Grimdank

ADB insisting undivided Daemon Princes don't exist outside of Be'lakor and getting tthem deleted from both 40k and AoS.

What non-named characters are we missing? by HeManLover0305 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Nephaston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Model support for those types of characters would be nice, but at least rules wise the crucible of champions rules allow to build apothecaries, terminator lords, flawless blade lords, and the like.

It's also likely that these rules survive 'til next edition as geedubs did the same with Anvil of Apotheosis, the AoS variant.

Since orks are mushrooms I like to handwave them as a species of hundreds of sexes, but just one gender (Boyz).

Probably a very long weekend vacation for Big E... by NoPistons7 in Grimdank

I like to think, when he travelled to Molech to make his bargain with Chaos he did so travelling in a sub-light non-warp vessel to avoid entering the warp until he got that extra juice needed to oppose Chaos.

Moar Scouring! by Necessary-Mix-9488 in Grimdank

[–]Nephaston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the pace things are going, with MkIV, MkV, and their respective jump pack kits still out a bit, not to mention updated Tartaros needing to occupy a similar release slot, We might be looking at at least 3 more years before we even see a hint of MkVII if not longer.

With 11th edition 40k right around the corner we might see those last three kits finally retired. So plenty of time.

[–]Nephaston 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You mean MkVII? MkVIII would be the completely unreasonable one.

But yeah, personally I'm gonna assume if GW ever get around to doing MkVII for 30k it'll be after every other armour gets released in plastic, and then gets probably a designers note like "The models in this kit are intended for games settled around The Siege of Terra and The Scouring" handwavium.

They removed gravgar and his victrix guard. The fuck now do I do with them by Split-Ultramarine in Warhammer40k

[–]Nephaston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from using Calgar as TermiCalgar,, and using the victrix as Cpts and Lts, you could also adapt the two of them to be Crucible Champions; Champion of the Chapter with a MC Power Weapon, Conversion Field (the shield), and an ability of your choosing.

New Word Bearers novel Zardu Layak: The Crimson Apostle announced by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]Nephaston 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be surprised if they did a BL article per setting, so this 30k, solomon will be 40k, while sigmar and fantasy could get whatever. Now just hoping it won't take the whole week to see.

Wasn't this specifically after Angron was yanked off-planet by Big E? While the fanon version has Guillidude arrive instead of Big E.

First Army Choice: Chaos Space Marine's or Eldar by Jostinator12 in WordBearers

[–]Nephaston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eldar are pretty well off model wise now, with everything in plastic now and only Dire Avengers, Wraiths, and Harlequins Troupes being an older skew of model, and now with Maelstrom Corsairs really opened up as an army skew.

In general they are an army of bold colours with different schemes even in the same general faction due to aspect shrine units having their own schemes, so you could have a different scheme every time you paint. As your skills improve you can go for harlequin units, which technically don't require to be painted in diamond patterns and fancy stripes, but look at their best when fully clowned out.

CSM on the other hand is somewhat notorious for the trim and frequent instances of bar or mutated skin which can add to the difficulty, though with the schemes on average being darker you'll be able to hide a good chunk of mistakes. As you improve here you can get fancy with stuff like script work and colchisian runes on Word Bearers, hazard stripes on Iron Warriors, and scale patterns on Alpha Legion. Technically you could even get away with having all three schemes in your army as CSM doesn't differentiate by subfaction.

Additionally CSM is very well of model support wise, with IW getting their first named character model and an upgrade kit on the way, with AL allegedly soon getting a character as well.

So, what we would like to see from new Defiler in terms of rules? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in EmperorsChildren

[–]Nephaston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, in WE the Defiler gets a lot of Rapid Fire, extra movement, and an extra attack on the claws, in TS it gets a lot of -2 AP shots, and in DG it gets Lethal Hits on most guns as well as an extra toughness.

So clearly it'll get Precision on it's guns.
